New DS Color for the ladies...Metallic Rose...

In the game market, supply is even more irrelevant to demand. Demand for a game console is based mostly on the console's features, games, popularity, and other things, but gaming is a diverse market so there isn't a simple equation you can throw these things into to get the demand for a console. The only sure-fire way to determine demand is to have supply superceed it and see how many consoles are sold. However many consoles are sold is the demand for the console.

I guess that does make sense. However, one would think that demand would exceed the supply of a console, as if they are all sold out, arent people dying for more.

Apparenlty there is no more Demand for a DS Lite, as I went to stores today and there seemed to be so many DS Lites on the shelf!!!

I don't know. It contribute somewhat for demand. I guess you're saying that the fact that people can't easily get the consoles makes them want them more, and this could be true, but it still isn't the single factor in figuring out demand for a console.

I think that's why they're coming out with a new color because demand has dropped.

Yes, even last months sales report showed the DS in dead last with 0 units sold. There is still a pretty high demand, it's just lower than it was.

I think the market is saturated with DS Lites, so this is one last ploy to bolster sales and see if they can get people to get multiple DS Lites, since no one is buying any.

Since when? The DS still had higher sales last month than the 360 and PS3 combined, and it beat out every system(beyond the Wii) by over 200,000 units. So, since no other system that isn't Nintendo didn't even crack 200,000 units sold this previous month(not to be confused by the 200,000 I said was the minimum gap between any one system(barring the Wii) and the DS), how are the other guys doing if 'no one is buying DS's'?

You dont give me no break at all, this is so not fair. Regardless, for therer to be DS Lites in the store, then there must be people not buying it, perhaps these are just the shipments that stores are recieving and not the number of units that were actually sold.

Umm, no, then it would be units shipped for the month, not units sold. Do you really think they shipped under 200,000 PS3's in April because they figured, "Hey, no one's gonna be buying a PS3 alongside GTAIV, so we shouldn't worry about shipping any PS3's out."?

I would say the market is clearly moving towards saturation as DS sales were incredibly low, but I wouldn't say it's saturated yet, just because demand is ahead of supply. If you are to use that as an indicator, then the market for every console outside of the Wii is saturated.

Again, the fact that there are DS's on the shelf doesn't mean the market is fully saturated, especially given how many DS's Nintendo can produce in a short amount of time.

Yes it would make perfect sense now since we dont have the technological ability to gauge the current demand for a system.
Like I said before, if demand is less than supply, you can gauge demand just by looking at how many consoles were sold in a given period of time.

Please forgive me but must counter that incorrect point. For example

Once again in the Mass-grocerysupermarket there is a tomato section. Based on how many tomatoes were sold the previous day is how many tomatoes the store people put out. They fill it up to the max with tomatoes every morning and in the evening no tomatoes remain. Ultimately by the logic that has been presented they will continue to in the future only put out this same number of tomatoes. Simply put this means that demand for tomatoes is at 0 for if they put more on display then there would be "that amount of more" in excess in the evening. Thus with an extra tomatoes on the shelf at the end of the day, that means demand for tomatoes has all but been nullified.

Thus the supply and demand is only the size that the produce department decides to put out. Similarly the supply and demand of consoles is the amount that console makers put out. Demand equals the Number that were put out. Thus if there is any console on the shelf at the end of the day that means there is now 0 demand as there is now excess. It really makes perfect senese and the tomato example only amplifies and visually expands its effect.

Simply put, the demand for the DS has vanished as their are still units on store shelves. If there are not any DS Lites on shelves that means that there is high demand

i would agree with you if it weren't for the fact that DS sell like hot bread, the reason there are DS on shelves is because they have a faster production process

Yes exactly, now people are finally understanding.

omg... :lol

I'm not understanding you, I was making a sarcastic remark about your non-existent logic. There is NO demand whatsoever if they have 10 DS's on the shelf and sell 9 that day? That's exactly what you just said.

Yes I dont see how that doesnt make sense or invalidate my logic. If you cant sell everything on the shelf then that shows there is no demand. Demand only becomes apparent once something is gone and people request more.

NO DUDE FORGET IT >_> demand IS THERE the thing is there is a higher supply, that doesn't mean the demand is nonexistent, the DS is still selling like crazy they only made a new color, big deal? nintendo does this all the time, to boost sales a little bit but not because they have 0 demand, stop trying to prove your point becuase it certainly doesn't make any sense
