New kiosk demo features RE4 playable!

Today at GameStop we got in the new kiosk demo for the Gamecube. It has some awesome playable demos:

Baten Kaitos
Resident Evil 4
Paper Mario 2
Donkey Konga
Metroid Prime 2
Mario Power Tennis


I didn't get a chance to try anything out today as I was too busy working. But I will be going back tomorrow just to play. I'll post impressions for RE4, definitely, but are there other requests?
 
Ok, I played some of the stuff today. So here are my impressions.

Resident Evil 4 = awesome! The movement is much more fluid than in previous RE games, although turning around is still slow. The villagers are pretty sturdy in that it takes at least 2 bullets to kill them, even if the first one is a head shot. Amo was in short supply, which keeps the intensity up. The graphics are fantastic, and as far as I could tell, it was the same build from E3, so the final version has the potential to look even better.
Verdict: Must buy!

Mario Power Tennis = way fun! I wasn't even going to try it out at first, as I have never played a tennis game before. But MPT is really a blast. I was hooked when I started playing it. Hitting the tennis ball back and forth was fun.
Verdict: Must buy!

Baten Kaitos = interesting. It has a card-based battle system, you see. But it's actually easier to do than I thought it would be. The graphics don't seem as pretty as I've seen but then again I'm a total cel-shading fan so it could just be that.
Verdict: Worth checking out!

Viewtiful Joe 2 = as awesome as the first, and you get to play as Silvia! :woot
Verdict: Must buy!

Metroid Prime 2 = better than the first. Honestly, MP2 is something I plan to buy eventually, but not right away. I mean it's cool but I still have to beat the first one. *looks ashamed* I want to see the multiplayer before I make any decisions on it.

Yeah, I could probably swing it. We just throw them away when the next one comes in. But it might be a while, considering it was just put in two days ago.
 
Wow...those all sound really good. I'm not particularly interested in Metroid Prime 2 but the rest sound great. For somebody who hasn't played the Resident Evil games...do you think I'd be lost playing RE4?
 
Lost in what way?

As far as storyline, RE4 isn't really like the other REs. It doesn't have zombies, no Umbrella Corp, etc. The only thing from RE that's still in RE4 is the main character, Leon, who was in a previous RE game.

On a side note, the first guy you kill....if you examine him, it says, "He's not a zombie." I thought that was kind of funny, like it was poking fun at itself. :D

The controls on RE4 seem weird but are custom-tailored to the Gamecube controller.

Left analog directs you. The c-stick switches the camera angle in a sort of weird way. You probably won't use the c-stick that much. At least, I didn't. Right trigger is used for aiming the gun, but I think you use A to actually shoot. A is also used for examing things and kicking people. The only issue I had with the controls is that my aim sucked, but that's something I can fix with practice. :) Holding down B makes Leon to run.

The only RE game I have played before was Resident Evil Zero, and the problem I had with that was the controls in general. But it feels like RE4 fixed them, so I'm really excited for RE4.
 
They sound awesome and I can't wait to buy each one of them!

So was Baten Kaitos just mediocre or not quite as good as the others? That's the only one i'm not 100% on.

Yeah. You'd be disgusted at all the things we throw away, actually. Not only do we throw away demo discs, we also throw away magazines when new ones come in, and we throw away promotional stuff like standees and box art.

They were going to throw out this really cool standee for Paper Mario 2 and I was like, "Nooooooo! Let me have it." So they let me have it. I also scored this poster that has a picture of the DS on it and it says, "Coming Soon!" It was a promotional item that was just going to be thrown away. When Halo 2 comes in I'm sure they are going to throw away the mock-up tins that we have. I will see if maybe I can get some of those for you guys. :)

As for PS2 demos and XBOX demos...the only problem with those is that the Sony rep and the MS rep actually take care of that. So they take their old demos back. Nintendo just mails them to us, so that's why we are able to throw the old demos away, since they don't ask for them back. I can see if we still have the old GC demo that had Pikmin 2, Paper Mario 2, Splinter Cell, Donkey Konga, and Mario Pinball playable if you are interested in that one.

Well, the battle part I liked. It was turn-based and used the cards. Using the cards is a lot easier than one would assume. It's not really like Yu-Gi-Oh or anything. I'm just not sold on the graphics. The backgrounds are pre-rendered and the camera angle seemed weird. There was one part where it was top down. Another part had it behind you. There's 4 different stages that you can play in the demo, though, and I only tried out one. I'll have to play some more and get some more impressions.
 
yeah.... Gamestop, and EBgames are bad guys IMO.

They throw away game boxes.... and manuals.
Which is why its hard to find complete games sometimes..... I am one of the only places that scores boxes and manuals with the games... granted they are more expensive, BUT they are harder to obtain.

Really....  Its because of those 2 places (I know there are more) that you see the disappearance of complete games.  Its just wrong....  :( You can also thank them for driving up the prices of complete games (due to making them more rare). I mean... I hear someone tell me they threw out and crushed.... Chronotrigger / Megaman x3 / X2 / Ogre Battle and other boxes/manuals for the snes :o YIKES! :o
