New Pc im going to "try" and build!

I few years ago i decided to buy parts for a pc and put it together myself. Didn't go great so i took it to the shop and they finished it. This time i'm determined to do it all myself. Im going to order a part or 2 every month, i'm in no rush to get it finished and will also mean i can spend more on it.

This is what i'm thinking of getting so far:

Case:

Im still not sure about athlon and intel. I know everyone says how much better intel is but i have only ever had athlon so i think i will stick with it. I like the idea of having wifi aswell.

Im not completely up on computers but i think these are all compatible. I may go for more ram but not sure if theres any need with the Processor im getting. I hear a lot about overclocking, im not exactly sure what that is so ill have to check that out before i buy some of the stuff. Has anyone else built there own pc? any advice?

Coincidentally, I'm actually about to buy the parts for a new one of mine soon.

Trust me here. You're getting a quad core. AMD's quad core just can't come close to competing with Intel. I would really recommend picking up a Core 2 Quad, instead of the Phenom. You would have to pick out a new montherboard, so the two are compatible though.

Also, if you want to use the PC for gaming, I would suggest upping the graphics card to an 8800 GT. It's the best power to price ratio out there.

Only a couple things I'd reccomend:

1. Unless you're going to do dual video cards (SLI / Crossfire), you should look into a motherboard that has only one PCI-E 16x slot.

2. The video card is good, but if you're going for gaming, you should look into an 8800 GT or GTS. I have an 8800 GTS 320MB, works like a dream.

3. I can't say too much on processors, as I honestly don't know how well quads perform. I do know that Intel's Core 2 Duo's are pretty sick (I have an E6750 right here), but you'd need to pick out a new motherboard

4. Do you have Power Supply Unit (PSU) do go with it? The case doesn't come with one, so unless you're pulling one from an old computer, you need to get one as well. It should have at LEASt the following: 500+ Wattage, and at least 20 Amps on all it's 12v rails combined.

Looks good so far. I agree with Nova about the power supply, this is the most important piece of the entire PC build. If you go cheap and buy a crappy power supply it could fry and take your whole PC with it. Look at brands like, PC power and cooling, Corsair, Enermax, Seasonic, FSP, and Antec. A few of us here have built PC's so you'll have plenty of help if needed! Good luck :)

I just did a bit of reading about intel and athlon and it seems that intel is soooo much better than athlon! So i'v decided to pretty much change everything apart from the case (i really like it!!)

Yeah i wasnt sure about the psu. i always worry about my computer over heating so i want to make sure i dont have to worry, maybe add some extra fans.
These are my new specs: (i'll give intel a go :P)

Think thats it. Im going to stick with xp, really dont like vista at all. Not sure if this motherboard is good enough. I just really want one with wifi!

Thanks for you comments. think i will be asking for help quite a bit when i eventually get all the parts :)

Neither of those power supplies will suffice. You absolutely need something better! This would work- http://www.microdirect.co.uk/(31042)Corsair-PSU-650W-CMPSU650TX-ATX12V-v22-5.aspx

or this-

Other than that it looks better, those Phenoms are not that great {or so I've heard}. I was going to suggest Intel at first as well, but I didn't want to sound redundant :P

lol thanks. i will get one of those instead. if you see any other cool stuff just send me the link and ill use it aswell. thanks again for all you comments.
