Neo Geo CD newb looking for help

sup everybody.yep I'm a newb to this forum and to the Neo Geo CD system.I'm also a collector but i have know idea of whats good for this system.so with a little help from someone here maybe i can get sent in the right direction.Thanks :)

well ... that depends on 2 things:
1.) what games you like
2.) and the opinion of those you ask :)

what kind of games do you like? IE style of games?
Shoot em ups (Schmups), Side scroll shooters, vertical scroll shooters, platformers..etc..

thanks for the game help but now i'm hearing that there are two different systems.man this confuses me.witch is better and witch does what different.

This isn't an easy question: there are indeed two systems, the Neo Geo CD "standard" and the Neo Geo CD-Z, a faster loading unit. The CD-Z has abigger RAM (and maybe a faster CD drive, but this isn't completely sure), bus is said (again: no proof whatsoever!) that is more likely to blow up.

And there are even two kind of "standard" Neo Geo CD: a front-loader and a top-loader... they're basically the same system, but the front loader is bigger and more "exclusive", while the top-loader is more common and cheaper.

Neo Geo CD: slower but cheaper and really reliable (only had one problem in 10 years!)

Neo Geo CDZ: faster, smaller, but MAYBE a bit unreliable

If you plan to use backups (CD-R), the Neo Geo CDZ is said to have a protection system that prefent newer games to ble played as backups.

The great problem of the CD systems (both CD and CDZ) are the game pads... they break up really, REALLY easily! Try to get a classic Neo Geo stick or an adapter to use Dreamcast or Playstation pads!
 
There are 3 types, top loader, front loader, and CDZ.

The top loader and front loader are basicaly the same system, only look a little different. The CDZ will load the games almost twice as fast.

There are very few reports of CDZ systems overheating...not "blowing up"...but I know many people that have CDZs and have had no problems at all.

The CDZ is more expensive, the top loader is the best entry system, its cheapest and considered the most reliable.

I'm sorry, I didn't mean to lead him astray... "blow up" was the only thing that came into my mind... it's not always easy to find the right word in a foreign langiage... :-\
