Nintendo Wii's....TV Guide Channel

Honestly, it's alright cause you can search by genre and actor, but if you're just browsing through, for the love of god just turn off ur system and use the tv remote. Any addition is a good one, but they could have done something else, something better.

In all the excitement about the Wii's planned Virtual Console gift giving service we somehow missed another important channel announcement in Nintendo's recent graph-packed financial results briefing. The TV Program Schedule Channel will ... wait for it ... let Wii users view the TV program schedule! On their Wii!

According to the briefing, the Channel will allow for searches by genre or actor and let various members of the family register their favorite shows. "We want Wii to become a kind of a friend to the TV set in the living room," Nintendo President Satoru Iwata said. "So it will be nice if people will turn on the Wii console when they want to search for interesting TV programs." Or, y'know, they could just turn on the TV and use the integrated on-screen guides included with most cable systems. Then again, we thought the Wii Forecast Channel couldn't compete with cable's Weather Channel, but we still love spinning that on-screen globe, so what do we know?

While no U.S. plans for the service were announced, the Interactive Program Guide service Nintendo is using includes U.S. data from Gemstar-TVGuide, so a domestic release seems possible. Japanese users can look forward to the service in Spring '08.

lol everyone tries...but Nintendo's TV guide Channel = fail. :lol
Yeah. I'm not even gonna bother wasting space on my Wii (space that should be filled with VC games) by downloading this stupid thing. I have a guide on my TiVo that works fine.

lol, it's still pretty lame....
I'm not really denying that.

the real questio is.....are you sure nintendo is gonna release this.......the news channel makes me save money for the newspaper and i can read every new i'm interested (in tv you can't)
and in the weather i can get a more detailed weather report without waiting either.....but this i can do this with my brighthouse
it's VERY lame

That is the most random thing I've ever heard. I mean, if you wanted to know what was on TV wouldn't you be channel surfing instead of playing your Wii? Seriously, WTF?

In the days of TiVo, DVR, and company-provided on-screen guides, this really isn't useful. Ten years ago, this would've been a serious hit... unfortunately, good luck finding Wii technology circa 1998. :p

Something tells me this feature will explode in Japan, though.

It's only going to be in Japan. Japan has a lot fewer stations than we do, and it's a lot easier(and more convenient for those who live in Japan) to do a TV guide for their TV stations, as opposed to our hundreds of stations. So stop freaking whining, we won't even get it.

Hey I got a whacky idea, instead of making silly programs like this. How about Nintendo makes the SD Cards the primary source of your Wii's memory, instead of secondary! That would be something else, eh guys? :) I'm just throwing it out there, nothing major :)

I'm still running on internal memory, and I've got about ten games and 19 VC games saved.
