Wth? How did this get so far off topic? :lol

Is Odin Sphere actually that good? I mean, its based off gameplay that has been outdated for years so can it actually stand up to today's RPG's?

umm.... yes. have you not read the topic? the reviews are great, its a good title to break the monotony of more of todays rpgs

The reviews are pretty good as far as I can tell, but nothing phenomenal so I was just wondering what the huge fuss you guys are making over the game is...

play the tales series, and you'll know.

Wow, that's so off-base I don't even know what to say.

Odin Sphere is not like Tales at all, and I actually have played both so.....I speak from experience.

Odin Sphere is a sidescrolling brawler rpg with strategy elements. Honestly it's hard to describe. It's one of those games you have to play to understand.

It's true that the fighting is pretty basic. It's real time and you just press the square button. You can do combos. You can also use magic, which you get by absorbing phozons (energy released by your enemies when they die) into your staff thingie (forget what it's called). And you can use alchemy to create stuff like napalm which causes fire damage and sometimes can add a burning effect.

Over the course of the game you play through five different character's point of views so they all have different combat abilities.

Here's a breakdown of the story according to IGN.

The nation of Valentine was once a grand kingdom with powerful magic. With the power of a magical relic known as the "Cauldron," King Valentine subdued the neighboring nations and brought them under his control. His kingdom enjoyed a long period of prosperity... but a sudden disaster destroyed it overnight. War broke out between the Fairy Kingdom of Ringford and the warrior nation of Ragnanival over ownership of the now-abandoned Cauldron, and control of the wasteland that was once Valentine. With the battle growing fiercer by the day, Demon Lord Odin, King of Ragnanival, sets forth a plan to conquer Ringford and claim the Cauldron once and for all. Meanwhile, in the neutral realm of Titania, King Edmund had become a puppet king of his court sorcerer Urzur, who schemes to follow a forgotten prophecy and bring about the Armageddon; a prophecy stating that the world will be destroyed in five great disasters, but the survivors will become kings. As the nations struggle for control, the world steadily slips unknowingly toward its demise, and the prophecies become clear...

You can probably watch trailers on IGN or GameSpot.

What is WRONG WITH YOU PEOPLE!!! Hines, your judging a game you've never even played, and everybody else is complaining about Madden and Mario! Honestly, the only thing generic about Odin Sphere is the Frog Prince. Quit your yellabellieng and BUY IT!!!

SUPER BUMP! :lol

Zi's beaten it I believe. I have it as well. It's a gorgeous game. Combat's easy and fluid. Boss's each have a strategy for beating them. It's great. :)
