Less than half?? Oh, I hope I'm not going to be sorry buying this.

I'm pretty sure that's just because of the compression of the video and audio. That alone takes up A LOT of space. Especially if the audio is uncompressed, which I'm sure is going to be on the PS3. Although, unless you have very good ears (or a good sound system), you won't notice the difference.

I seriously doubt it has less than half of the amount gameplay. The only part that you might notice a difference is in the FMV's. Again, unless you have a direct PS3 FFXIII to compare it to, you might not even notice it.

I thought there was no PS3 install needed?

I believe all PS3 games allow partial installs for faster load times.

The stats Mega posted are just overall data sizes on the discs.

Thanks for the clarification. I was not so worried about less gameplay as I am about graphics and fmv quality. I just don't want some pixel-y nonsense when I'm expecting HD fabulousness. :) But I think you're right, I probably won't even notice the difference this way. i hope

The Xbox has a really good built-in upscaler, so it will still look good even at resolutions higher than 720p. It should fill up any missing pixels nicely.

Square Enix confirmed that the PS3 version of Final Fantasy XIII will include a secret in-game item that can be redeemed online, and you also have a chance to become a beta tester for Final Fantasy XIV with the campaign code bundled with the game.

Well that must be the special reward that they are talking about that came in the game (and on the playstation blog post saying to hang on to the code).

Anyway, I cant wait to start playing it.

Long time everyone. I'm in chapter three. First game that I've wanted to play in a long time.

Re: Offical Final Fantasy XIII Thread (March 9th, 2010 in the USA)

I just beat the game here, and i enjoyed it a lot.

The game is extremely linear, but I find the combat system, the cut scenes the characters and storyline interesting and fun enough that I don't mind that. Honestly, side scrollers are linear, the 2D FFs were linear (except you have a couple mazes) there weren't choices or anything, so it's very similar to that. And it's just as fun in my opinion. I maxed out my pre-final boss crystarium having grinded not going through the story for probably only 4-5 hours, three of which I did on side quests.

The storyline's good, it's a fun game, it's absolutely beautiful to watch I don't know how I'm going to play other games with lesser graphics. I did about 50% of the side quests as it gives you a portal in the last chapter prior to the boss to go back and do those which are introduced in chapter 11. I don't see a purpose to the side quests, many of which can't be completed until after you've beaten the game. You have to grind out more xp for hours after that, which I'm not willing to do by any means. So the main story is pretty fun, I finished it in around 45 hours including the grinding, but I don't really see a point to the side content since it doesn't have story or cut scene implications.

So because of that, I'm not so sure it has so much replayability, even though I found it extremely fun to go through this one time, and recommend that for sure. I just don't see myself coming back to it down the line, though I would play FFXIII-2 if they made one because I'm invested in the characters.

Hope that is a decent enough review.

Re: Offical Final Fantasy XIII Thread (March 9th, 2010 in the USA)

Yeah I beat it with 54 hours on my final playtime clock. A few of the games bosses are just beasts, lol. I only did the required "Mark" quests, and I aim to go back through it so I can try to get a Platinum trophy. The target time was really the only thing that made part of the game difficult, as it seemed like they had some odds times. I loved it. The best team I found was my Lightning, Fang, Hope.

(Really target times of 25 minutes on Eidolon fights when they have a doom countdown on you at the beginning, the final boss with a Target Time only 8 minutes X_X) lol.

Some of the eidolon fights and the boss at ch11 were harder than the end boss lol. I got more stars on the end boss than I did on those.

Re: Offical Final Fantasy XIII Thread (March 9th, 2010 in the USA)

I couldnt get the stars on the end boss, the target time was too low

The Target time for Orphan first form was too low for me, for Orphan second form it was easy, All Out attacks really pushed the guage

Eidolon fights were mainly easy though I always finished them at the last possible instant, I rarely used them in combat to be honest, except as a cheap healing mechanism, but it was more convenient to use RENEW.

Re: Offical Final Fantasy XIII Thread (March 9th, 2010 in the USA)

I gotta say guys, with all due respect to your gaming skill, some of you seem to have beaten this title rather swiftly.Did you complete any of the side quests?Did you play uninterrupted for 5 days straight?

Godspeed.
Kaz

Re: Offical Final Fantasy XIII Thread (March 9th, 2010 in the USA)

Yeah I played 5 days straight, roughly 14 hours a day or more. The game requires three questions to be done (and to get a trophy have to get a 5 star on each quest, so I need to go back and do two of them :( stupid target times, lol).

But yeah, I loved it, I will be working towards a platinum trophy in due time.

Re: Offical Final Fantasy XIII Thread (March 9th, 2010 in the USA)

I'm blazing through the PS3 edition. I'll probably take more time with the 360 version to get all the Achievements.

Re: Offical Final Fantasy XIII Thread (March 9th, 2010 in the USA)

I saw the Xplay review and am kinda wanting to get the game... I would lean toward the PS3 (brand loyalty/blu-ray), except that the 360 is now cheaper, has the new jasper chipset (more reliable than the older models), and what is this about achievements?

Re: Offical Final Fantasy XIII Thread (March 9th, 2010 in the USA)

The achievements are same as the trophies on the PS3.

But anyway, the PS3 version of the game looks nicer and is on one disc.

Well, I wouldn't buy a 360 just for FFXIII.

If you're planning on getting a 360 anyway, I'd probably still suggest the PS3 version of FFXIII, just because having it on one disc is probably less complicated.

The Achievements/Trophies are probably pretty much the same.

If you have neither a PS3 or 360 already, then yes I would get FFXIII for the 360 and a 360, because there are other great games available on the 360 as well.

I hope that makes sense. :lol
