Official HALO 3 ODST thread

I'm kinda upset that Fire Fight mode doesn't support Matchmaking...they're almost taking the Nintendo route and only letting you play it with people you know.

? Source? I've not heard anything about that.

From Bungie's site http://www.bungie.net/projects/odst/features.aspx
Drop feet first into a new way to play Halo with the cooperative campaign mode, Firefight. Form a squad of your friends over System Link or Xbox LIVE and put your skills to the ultimate test against the invading Covenant war machine for glory, high scores, and achievements. Do battle in multiple environments, on foot or in vehicles, and against increasingly difficult waves of Covenant attackers while Halo 3's skull modifiers progressively activate to up the ante.

After the Firefight, relive and review every last kill you earned and see how your high scores and stats stack up against your friends' and the community overall using Bungie.net's persistent online stats and Firefight leaderboards.

I like people I know over total strangers to be honest, just like Left 4 Dead :)

Yeah, but at the same time, I'd like to be able to play anytime. Not just when my friends are available.

So I was talking to Mai Valentine earlier today, about "ODST" and this is how the convo went down:

Mai: "I don't think I will get it at midnight tonight. But I am not sure yet."

Mega: If I tie you down to the warthog and drove u there, would u then? :D"

And so I did ^_^

Mega "DON'T WORRY! I CAN MAKE IT!!"

Understandable, but knowing me, I only play if my posse is online yo ^_^ Wait, like you Strubes! *gasp*! :D

You kinda got the source yourself.

It's one main problem a lot of people have been voicing about the game on several boards.

I don't understand? What's the problem you have with it then. It's got Xbox live compatability.

It means you can only play with your friends...so if they're working and you have the day off...you're out of luck when it goes to firefight.

That does suck. -_-

On the other hand, with the ability to have 100 people on your friend list, I'd be really surprised if there was ever a point when there wasn't at least one other person on your list that was playing.

I just got back from the launch and one thing that dawned on me, is the target audience that Halo is attracting. It was very very sad.

Jocks, jerk-bags, cigarette smoking, cheap cologne wearing, low class white trash, college boys who are seriously snotty, rude, hard-headed, narrow minded, obnoxious, and no sportsmanship what so ever. The gentlemen winning the mini-tournament was mocked and made fun of during the entire event. I felt bad for the guy, because I know him personally.

Seriously, who's to blame for this? Microsoft really did a good job of making sure Halo is sexist and only geared towards men the age of 18-30. All I wanted to do, was get my game and get the heck out of there. I was disgusted by all the jerks.

I digress, screw them, I got what I came for.

It's gorgeous. The Collector's edition comes in a rather large plastic case, the Sgt. Johnson code, and the guide book (which you are granted 20% off the price if purchased right then and now..which is nice..)

Wow... that is rather sad.

But yes... I am drooling from the site of that. Wish I had the cash on me to have pre-ordered myself ^_^ :drool

I bought it last night as well...played through the first couple levels with some friends of mine. I'm......quite underwhelmed. But, maybe firefight will be a better experience than the cheesy story.

I'm buying mine tomorrow. I have money stuffed under the bed, and I wasn't near a department store. I'll be ready in like 12 hrs from now....if it's not completed sold out. I doubt anyone will care that I have mine, but hey I'm a republican...I'm the traitor national socialist!

Edit* Warning on swearing.

Well I'm @ work on 4 hours of sleep, totally worth it tho. I would pay $60 for firefight mode alone, call me crazy. Mega, strubes and myself had a blast yesterday, can't wait to get off of work.

http://kotaku.com/5366330/odst-sees-nearly-one-million-players-its-first-day

Halo 3 ODST made some serious numbers online..

According to a widget box at the front of Bungie.net, close to 950,000 people had played Halo 3: ODST on its first day of release, logging more than 5 million games. Yes, those are impressive numbers.

As of the time this post was written, ODST's 24 hour figure for total players was 949,306; the 24-hour total for games played was 5,708,031. Divided out, that's six games per player, on a school night/in the middle of a workweek. And you know there were some out there blowing the curve and staying up all night with this.

For comparison's sake, Halo 3 saw 1,340,550 games yesterday, so, ODST more than quadrupled that. Some have tried to hazard quick guesses on ODST's first day sales; we'll wait for NPD. But if this is any indication, yeah, it's probably gonna do land office business.
