Official Mario Kart Wii Thread

Re: Offical Mario Kart Wii Thread

Two things.

1) Large characters have horrible models
2) *cries at inclusion of Waluigi*

Re: Offical Mario Kart Wii Thread

They removed snaking.

Ever since Mario Kart 64 brought the drifting mini-boosts to the mascot-karting arena, the "snaking" technique has been the bane of many players who haven't gotten the knack for it or otherwise just refuse to use it. Mario Kart DS with online play only exacerbated the issue. Snaking became so common it was almost impossible to win a match without using it.

Mario Kart Wii will be seeing online play when it hits on April 27, so it seemed a sure bet that the technique would once again rear its head. But not so, according to GoNintendo, which picked up this blurb from the Official Nintendo Magazine in the UK:

The second big difference...is the removal of snaking. Ever since the N64 game, practically every Mario Kart game has included the ability to get a speed boost by waggling the controls left and right as you powerslide. This has finally been scrapped, and now your speed boost is determined by how long you can hold the slide.
Making the system rely on duration of a slide should certainly remove the ability to do one after another in quick succession. We'll see how the community reacts and adapts to this change when the game hits this spring.

Re: Offical Mario Kart Wii Thread

I'm sure experts will still be able to pull off something close, but this is awesome.

is gonna be called mario kart/bike ? :lol

They wanted to remake Excite Bike but they ran out of cash so they just shoved it into Mario Kart. I can't wait until next month to pick this up. I've loved every version of Mario Kart, even Double Dash.

Honestly not looking forward to this game very much at all.
Two things. One, you've said that. Two, why?

Re: Offical Mario Kart Wii Thread

It looks no different than any other MarioKart. Added to that, it doesn't even look as good as the other ones.

it has on-line and no snaking. it's more like a perfection of mario kart DS, still there's no reason this one is not as good as the others. so it's "soon to be in my library" for me

I'm not too confident in Nintendo's online situation these days, so that's not going to convince me.

i was not trying to convince you..... and well the only minimal problem i had with on-line comes from brawl (wich are now almost fixed).

besides reggie said this game is going to have lots of characters (and characters are important in racing games) i just hope they make a mission mode like in DS and a extended GP mode like always. then on-line should be a blast and using the wheel makes it a must buy for me

Re: Offical Mario Kart Wii Thread

I'm with Hines on this one. There really just isn't much new and exciting in MK Wii. I might still end up buying it, but it's not a game that I'm really going crazy over.

me neither.... mario kart is one of the series that i think it's very average and it's only fun to play on multiplayer (unless i play mission mode) but i still get it because it's fun

Yeah, I won't deny that Mario Kart has given me some fun times, but I just don't have the money to spend on more of the same right now.

That's not really a bad thing.
Added to that, it doesn't even look as good as the other ones.
Because you've played it. :/

I think there's a difference between unequivocally judging a game as bad before you play it and just saying it hasn't caught your attention.
He says it doesn't look as good as the other ones. And isn't the longest gameplay video we've had about five seconds worth of split second parts?
