hm.. when was this released? I haven't read anything on this game yet.
Sounds interesting! Dungeon Crawler kind of like Diablo 2? Or more RPG elements than action elements?
Bv :hat
Unchained Blades was just released on the 3DS eShop about two weeks ago I think. It's eShop only (there's no physical copy/retail release) and it's like $29.99.
The dungeons are like this, where you walk around in a first person view and it's sort of a grid.
As you explore more of the dungeon, it fills out the map.
The batttles are random, and take you to a separate screen.
The leveling system is similar to the Sphere Grid from FFX. You start in one spot and move around on the grids. You don't have to level in a linear way; you can go down different paths depending on what kind of skills you wish to prioritize. Eventually you would probably max all of them out, but this way you have some customization on how you want to build the character.
The monster recruit system is more similar to SMT than say, Pokemon, because you can't just capture the monster. Some of them require you to have a high enough charisma, and then you have to "unchain" them. It's like a little mini-game where you have a circle that you have to stop before a certain point.
The monsters level up with XP, but you don't get to pick their skills or anything. And the monsters have a max level, so you always want to switch out monsters for better ones as you go. You can have a max of four monsters, and that's also somewhat dependent on your capacity and their rank. Some monsters are higher rank, so if your capacity is four, and you have two monsters with a rank of 2, you'd only be able to have those two monsters, because between them they fill up your capacity.
Storywise, I don't want to spoil it too much, but the premise is that your main characters are all trying to get a goddess to grant them a wish, and to do that, they have to defeat large monsters called Titans (similar to Shadow of the Colossus). Each character has a different wish and different abilities, and you have different parties for parts of the game.
It's pretty awesome and I highly recommend it.
One thing I will warn is that you should be prepared to do a lot of level grinding. Don't move on to the next floor of a dungeon until you can go through the floor you're on without using MP or losing health in battles. The difficulty of the monsters literally spikes with each floor of the dungeons. If you're not strong enough you'll die pretty quickly.
