Ok, I have to ask

Dance Dance Revolution can be controlled by the regular controller, but it's more fun with the dance pad. People don't complain about having to buy a dance pad.

Donkey Konga can be controlled by the regular GC controller, but it's more fun with the bongo drums. But people are complaining left and right that "Nintendo is making us buy bongo drums."

Why is this? Is it just because it's the popular thing now to hate on Nintendo?

As far as cost on each goes...

On the dance pads: Sure, you can get cheap ones for about $20, but the good ones are usually more than $40.

On the bongo drums: You get one set of bongos with the game, and extra sets are going to be $30.

Donkey Konga bundled with the bongos is only going to be $50. When they bundle DDR games with a dance pad, it's $60. But no one complains!

I really don't get it.

I think it's kind of like a "bandwagon" thing. Once a couple people are complaining about something, other people are sure to join them.

Frankly, I think they're both pretty gay. But for arguement's sake...

I think the difference is that DDR started as an arcade and became super popular that way, so that people that enjoyed the arcade and want to play it at home, want it to be just as much like the arcade as possible. That never really happened with Donkey Konga.

As well, I think a lot of people (myself included) are still sour about the fact that there haven't been any true DK games on the GC. Hearing that the GC installment of the series was going to involve electronic bongos instead of controllers really pissed me off. Although I find DDR offensive in other ways, it's never really angered me in any way.

I could see them complaining if they had to buy the bongos extra.... but come on..idiots.... whats the deal?!
You get them free with the game.
$50 for the Bongos and the game.. good price.

It comes down to... PEOPLE ARE STUPID AND SHOULD BE SMACKED WITH A TACKHAMMER

At the risk of sounding like Neph here, I think you guys are crazy...

It's not like there's some giant conspiracy between every non-Nintendo fan to bash Nintendo for making bongo controllers. It's just a tacky, stupid idea, and most people see it for what it is...

Donkey Kong Jungle Beat might make good use of them, but Donkey Konga is just poor use of the DK name. Donkey Konga is just a rhythm game, but instead of actually making it a more in-depth game, they changed the controller to make up for it's unoriginality.

Donkey Konga just never really found an audience, not because it's popular to bash Nintendo, but because the game has little appeal. DDR did find and audience, a huge audience, because people liked it. Which is why no one complains when they have to shell out an extra $20 for it, because it's worth it.

Yeah, it's one of the current biggest selling games over there.

That's what i'm saying, it's not even out here. So people need to stop complaining. I agree with the original post.

yeah...
Sorry Stealth... I have friends here with the Japanese imports.... they love the game... of course they are DDR fans as well :)

Its a good game...... there is no doubt there.

I really don't think it has to do anything with buying the extra drums, but the fact is not a lot of people have the money for this kind of stuff. And of course people are upset that to have the most fun with this game they are going to have to dish out more money.

The same stuff was going on here in the boards with the GCN Final Fanasty game and the way you had to buy all the extra stuff to play it.

I'm upset about it... but only because I'm not going to be able to enjoy the game to it's full potential. I'm not blaming Nintendo in any way, any company on earth would have done it. Hell, most woudn't have even givin you the first set.

There are NO extra costs though. You get the bongo's free.

On FFTA, you got the Link cable free... there was no extra cost...... If you didn't have a GBA, it was still functioning as well.....

I don't get it...... 85% of cube owners have a GBA anyway.... so where is the problem if they give you the link cable and you can play the game single player WITHOUT the GBA? :-\

Neph.. Yeah. It must be.

Yeah, but everyone who actually plays Donkey Konga says they love it. At our store, now that we have the Donkey Konga demo set up with the bongos, we've gotten a lot more pre-orders on it.

If people want to play a rhythm game with just a controller, they should stick with Parappa the Rapper and stop complaining that Donkey Konga can use the bongo drums.

As for not getting a true Donkey Kong platformer...yeah, it's kind of a bummer.

More people own GBAs than PS2s, so the arguments against FFCC and Four Swords Adventure about not being able to find anyone else with GBAs...come on, you have to be kidding me. Besides that, it's not like FFCC and FSA are the only things you would use a GBA for. The thing has a 1000+ game library. The GBA is a system in its own right, so I never got why people complained about that, either.

Well, I think neph ended this entire argument.

Speaking of Terrorists and whatnot, in school today a kid said you can get PS3's on the black market :-\

Well, from what I hear through the grapevine, Donkey Konga has little if any hype surrounding it at all. Sure the Japanese like it, but they've always been kind of, ::) you know...

I honestly just can't see myself getting excited over playing electronic bongas. Seriously, if that's what you're into, get a real pair of them! It would be far more rewarding...

As for the FF:CC thing, most of my friends don't own GBA's, so although they outsell PS2's, it's still a pain to try and borrow/rent/steal enough GBA's to play FF:CC. Plus every player needs a link cable, at $15 apiece, that's another $60, with which you could have bought another game entirely. Once again, just seems gimmicky to me. I already had to buy 3 extra controllers($60 minimum)for my GC so I could play with 3 of my friends on regular GC games, I'm not about to pay another $60 for link cables so I can play one game...

I shop in Canada :D

Mostly because I live here, but sometimes I shop here just for fun.

average GC game = $70
average GC controller = $25
average GC = $140
average GBA/GCN link cable = $15

Living in the great white north = priceless
