Paint programs?

Does anyone know of any good paint programs that are free? Not bootleg or anything now... Something really good (Photo shop quality), but free? Thanks! :D
 
Ummm...I don't think you can find anything similar to Photoshop and it being free, unless you get a P2P program and download it, cause I know you dont want to pay $100+ for a program now do you?

There is a version of Photoshop available for free use...I beleive it's LX...very limited. You won't find anything as good or even close to Photshop for free. Trust me...I deal with it everyday...I'm a graphic artist.
 
yeah.... I get mad because you make the legit payers prices go up.

I spent $600 on my corel draw suite.... then about $400-480 more upgrading it to the newest version.
etc..etc..

Go coreldraw if you can.

but don't boot it.

If I booted, I would have Photoshop by now, but I don't like downloading things illegally. Too risky :crazy
I need to start saving :lol

what about paint shop pro? isn't that supposed to be decent?
but i'm a photoshop person. everything i need, it supplies

I have used Photoshop a lot as well... but em..... its... how do I say.... pwned by Corel :lol :D

actually....

Photoshop is better for plug-ins.... even corel makes Photoshop plug-ins.
BUT the same corel plug-ins work with Coreldraw as well.

Plug-ins (for those of you who do not know) are just little extra programs that give you more features, whether that is graphical editing... or what-have you.

~When you buy Corel draw... you get Coreldraw, photopaint, and corel rave..... that runs about $435 for the initial payment with the upgrades being $199-230..... for when you upgrade in later years.

~You have to buy the photoshop, and then the other programs seperately..... OR if you buy the compilation package (of a few programs - Acrobat, illustrator...etc) it seems to cost upwards of $600.

I also like the layout of Corel Draw better, and I can just get around it better..... and really... that is what matters in graphical programs.
To be honest again.... both programs are powerful and capable of doing A LOT..... but IMO its Corel all the way.
Also, Corel Makes Bryce 5, my favorite 3D scene creator.

I know my college was all up on the Photoshop programs.

For the sake of debate...
Photoshop whoops Corel. I'm a graphic artist and in the 5 years I've been doing this...I have only received Corel files from customers who are, how do u say, lacking the proper funds to accomidate us with our desired programs. If we ever got anything in Corel...we convert it to PS7 and work it from there. However...I do hear that Corel is alot more user friendly. Cuz in PS, if u don't know what u are doing...ur lost. U can play with it enough and eventually be doing great work...but that for me, is the case with anything I apply myself to.

Oh and BV...I will say that Bryce is the most excellent 3-d rendering prog available today...but that doesn't make Corel better than anything Adobe...does Adobe make a 3-D rendering prog???

I took a visual arts class in college.... besides that, I am all self taught.
BUT I do all the business cards, logos, websites, for a couple accounting firms.... websites... and all the images in all my selling sites www.egameaddiction.com.... on my fan sites: www.neogeocd.net


In fact, I also own all the Macromedia line of products as well....

BUT There is one BIG difference that I know.... and its big to me..... is that corel photopaint seems to do a better job with sizing down images for the web (meaning the final image size (KB) that is output from the program). 

PS and PP both have a learning curve, and once you get them down.... you have them down.
either way you cannot lose, I just like the corel line better.


The argument extends something like:
Windows is to Linux as Corel is to Adobe :D

I'm all self taught also BV. I took a HS course in Printing/Graphic Arts that really taught me...well...nada. When I got into the art department for the company I work for now...I had to dilligently study the different programs. I work with alot of Freehand and Illustrator...but outta them all PS has been the most fun. Only thing is it's raster...I always do my work in FH or AI (vector) and paste it into PS and tweek it with the different filters and plug-ins. I found that with PS the main thing to know i s to love your layers. Some people don't like layering, mainly probably cuz it scares em. No need to be scared...if I can do it..anybody can. U know that Game Addicts banner I made and posted over at EZ...all done vector and then tweeked with PS. Background was a PS plug-in by Kaladioscope (sp?). They make hellatight plug-ins. Alienskins is another I would recommend.
