I'm on the fence as to whether I think it's a good idea or not.
We've all been there: playing a game on Xbox Live and hearing some kid explain to his mother he's done with his homework, and he'll show her right after he finishes this death match, so leave him alone, woman! Why these kids can't mute their mics escapes reason, but it's clear that if that put-upon parent could limit her son's game time to a few minutes, maybe he wouldn't be so eager to disrespect his momma.
Confirming long-held rumors, Microsoft today announced such a feature will be coming to Xbox 360. Launching in early December, likely with the Fall Dashboard Update, the Xbox 360 Family Timer will let parents restrict their children's time playing games or watching movies by a per-day or per-week basis. A notice will appear when time is almost up, and once the clock hits zero, the console will turn off automatically. Microsoft claims a MS-sponsored study showed that 62% of the 800 polled parents would welcome such a feature.
