PC Games- what to get?

SpartanEvolved

SpartanEvolved
I have the Steam games (Half Life 2, Counterstrike Source, etc), and love them. But with my PC getting pumped up this Christmas, I'm looking for some newer games to play. Preferably FPS or RTS games.

Also, how does the 360 controller work with with PCs?

Well, I'll just name the usual, forgive me if you own some already. F.E.A.R, Painkiller, Black and White 2, Ground control 2:operation exodus, Mechwarrior 4, Warhammer 40k, Codename Panzers-phase 2, Brothers in Arms:Road to hill 30, Rome:total war, homeworld 2, and that's' all I can think of for now. Gamespot.com is pretty good for finding games, that's where I look usually.

To make it work with a pc you need the wireless reciever: http://www.joystiq.com/2006/12/05/xbox-360-wireless-receiver-for-pc-it-works/
Or if you have USB, download the driver and plug it into your USB port.

FEAR is a must have. If you don't like it, you can also get FEAR Combat, which is a downloadable multiplayer portion of FEAR.

Quake 4 is good, but I haven't really seen anyone online.

If you like RTS games, Command and Conquer: First Decade is a good choice, with all the C&C games minus one multiplayer game that was un-official.

I meant, how does the 360 controller work when playing games? Does it work well, okay, bad, etc

And I have the First Decade already, but it is a great deal.

hmm, Ill have to get a wireless adaptor some day and try it out.

EDIT: ok the answer it it works really well. you can even use the microphone as a USB headset when plugged in.

Yeah, I read that article. I know many PC gamers would die saying mouse and keyboard > controllers, but I love the 360 controller and would like to have the option of using it.

Which of the 2 is more popular? In terms of players online that is.

EDIT: It looks like 2142 is more popular, and I think I would pick it over BF2 because the Titan mode looks drool worthy.

Double post but its unrelated to the above one.

The 360 controller works okay with the PC, but at the moment Microsoft does not have any real support for it beyond the drivers to run it. You have to download third party software (costs $20 to keep...) to really get it running, and even then configuring it is a bit difficult. I'll keep everyone posted on it...

You can download the demo and play on that for a while. It is really pretty cool unless you have those immature people on your team who keep yelling insults at each other. (I had one such experience)

Yeah. But, with X2's help I am getting the absolute most value out of my PC. Post Christmas, I will be able to run any game out there, and most of them on high settings. Like Battlefield 2142 I will be able to run on high, and that game came out end of October this year :D
