Pikmin 2

Not at all. It's a very simple play mechanic and I'm sure the challenges in the 2nd one are presented in a way so that you know what to do having no previous Pikmin experience.

So what do you do, plant seeds and farm up some warriors?  Is there an object to the game, or is that it?

I'm sorry, I don't own a GC, and have never played one. I shouldn't be sticking my nose in here, but I'd really like to learn about all games, not just for the systems that I have. Especially when other's ask me what games to get, etc. And since I'd like to get into the game dev business (or just as a pleasurable hobby) I think it'd be beneficial to learn about everything.

I apologize for the double post, but there's info on Pikmin 2 in my latest GMR magazine. They rated it an 8/10, said it's better than Goblin Commander: Unleash the Horde, not as good as: Pikmin, and wait for it: The Inevitable Sequel. They're odd people...

If requested, I'll scan this particular page and post it here.

In the original, you (Captain Olimar) crash landed on an alien planet. On this planet you discover this UFO shaped object, which Olimar calls Onions (he thinks they look like onions). This Ufo spit out miniture plant shaped objects, which Olimar donned "Pikman" (named after his favorite food I believe).

Anyway, you use the help of these little guys to gather the missing parts of your ship. You have 30 game days, and each day (excluding the first) has a time limit before you must return to your ships, and your Pikmin to their Onions, for those that don't make it back get lost to the nocturnal creatures.

The Pikman can be used for battle ala throw them on an enemy and watch them beat the crap out of it. They can also make small bridges for themselves out of sticks to reach items and such.

Its really innovative, as I have nver seen a single game in existance before this one like it.

Of course, I could say the same for Alundra...

That sounds pretty cool. I know my brother actually read about it back when it was released, and wanted the game. I then told him we don't have GC, which made him disappointed.

I guess the story for the new one is that you need to collect some rare artifacts to sell back on your planet to make some nice cash or something like that. The object of the game is still the same, locate and bring back objects you find via Pikmin.

More like loyal servants. They do what you tell them to, they won't hesitate to die for your cause (half of the time you throw them), and they're disposable to an extent (except for the new purple and white ones).

What kinds of things must you go through and whatnot? I think someone said they build a bridge of sticks to get across the river, but can't you just make the blue ones go over and get it for you?

And how big is the world in this game? Like, how long would it take you to get from one end to the other?

Well, that's where the game really shines. You might be able to get across the water with blue ones, but there might be bombs across the water which only the yellow ones can pick up. You might need these bombs to break down a wall so that you can send your red pikmin through fire hazards to retrieve an object. Adding two new Pikmin just adds to the amount of puzzles possible, and for some really inventive ideas.

As for the length of the game, I couldn't say. The first one had a strict time limit, and if I remember correctly had a maximum play time of 7 and a half hours. I don't know about the new one though...

The funny thing is, is that it takes place on an "Alien planet". Yet everything looks like some old guys backyard. You see, Captain Olimar is only about the size of a quarter, and Pikmin are even smaller. In this new one your supposed to collect stuff for money. This stuff includes, but is not limited too:

Duracell Batterys (named "Courage Reactors")
7-UP Bottle Caps (named "Quenching Emblem")
7-UP Can (aptly named "Udder Scrap" as it is crunched up)
The Old G&W Hand-Held (named "Dream Architect")
Ace of Spades Card (named "Luck Wafer")
Chapstick (named "Survival Ointment")
Orange Slice (named "Citrus Lump")
Duct tape (named "SuperStick Textile")

In other words, the whole place looks like your in someone's garden. A poorly maintained garden with many holes and such :lol

I remember Shiggy saying something about the goal of this game for his is to have people inspect their backyards for any signs of Pikmin, so I don't think it's unreasonable to conclude that the "alien planet" is supposed to be earth.

Well let's not lose our heads here, I mean, it was funny, but it's not that funny...

Now if you want some sigworthy remarks, just browse around some of my posts, they all pretty much qualify...

:woot Just got the game myself. Its a bit hard playing as two characters at once at first. This game really puts an emphasis on multi-tasking.

The intro to the game has to be the best though:

Its shows how Olimar got to the planet before (hit my meteor) and it shows this VERY simply. It also goes on about how they got the debt which was the following...

Louie was a new recruit to the Hococate company (the on e Olimar works for) to make a delivery of Golden Pikpik carrots. However, he met a ravenous space bunny on his way which ate all of the carrots (kinda sucks for your first job too) and the president of the company was forced to take out a loan to pay for the carrots. Of course, there's a secret cinema which shows what REALLY happened...

So how does this game play?

Is it a great game to pick up?

Anyone want to give me their copy :lol

†B†V† :hat
