Pikmin 2

Its different from anything else BV, the style is its own. The second one has no 30-day limit, and 2 new Pikmin in it.

I like the no day limit... but at the same time (IMO) the day limit REALLY put pressure on things.

do they have a time attack or something else like that?
meaning that you can have a time limit?

Time attack, eh? Actually, that's what challenge mode is now called. They throw you in a dungeon with only so many pikmin and a time limit. Collect as much treasure and escape before time runs out. The amount ranges from about 60 to 4. Of course, the one with four has Queen candypop buds. Oh wait, one you start with 0, but you get 2 bulbmin.

Ahem... so I finally got a chance to play this at my friend's house over the weekend. I didn't touch the single player mode, but I didn't need to, because the multiplayer was so much fun. I could tell immediately the controls were tighter, AI responded quicker, and overall the gameplay just felt a lot more accurate and faster, which makes for fast, fun, multiplayer battles. I also liked the powerups that you get as Olimar/the other guy. It really makes you feel like the captain of some kind of army, actively involved in the battle, and the fact that there are numerous ways to win the match keeps it from becoming a stalemate of harvesting and battling pikmin. My only complaint is the cherry system that's involved (cherries can be brought back to your base to get random powerups). Although they can be a wild card in a battle that seems to be going nowhere, or win the game for you when all hope seems lost, more often then not the first person to get cherries, wins. It think there may have been a way to turn the amount of them per level down, or maybe even off, which I wish I would have tried, because that was the only problem I really had with it.

Griping aside, the multiplayer was fast, fun, and definitely original. All I can say is I can't wait for Pikmin to become 4 fourplayer (or more) and go online.

I think you can turn the cherries off, I'll have to check again.

Though I did find falling rocks to be quite amusing. And Raging Long-Legs in the Angle Maze. Both me and my friend went instant:

:o
Okay....

Neither of us expected to see a boss from one of the last dungeons in the game to pop down.

I was excited about Pikmin 2 coming out last November and then they delayed it for a year. Now it's come back round to nearing a release (in Europe) and I've no money to buy it!

I think that the 30 day time limit was put in the first game to add replay value by making it more difficult to collect all 30 parts, and extending the amount of time you spend playing it, as it is very short. I was disappointed when I heard they had removed the time limit for the sequel, as trying to get as much done as fast as possible was the main draw for me. I'm glad to hear that the day limit still remains.

I've got a question for those who have played both games: What's the level design like? Have the new Pikmin affected it much? Is there more to explore?

What's the level design like? Have the new Pikmin affected it much? Is there more to explore?

Level design is actually similar to that of the original. Valley of Repose is a new area itself, Awakening Wood looks similar to the Forest Naval (but the whole layout is different), Perplexing Pool is a half and half version of the Distant Spring (some areas are new, some are the same, some pieces are in the same spot too), Wistful Wild, the final area, is a mix of the Impact Crater and the Final area where you fought Emperor Bulbax in Pikmin 1.

The 2 new Pikmin are Purple and White, and to an extent, Yellow. Purple's are 10x stronger than regulars, which would be yellows, whites, and blues. They also have the ability to stun many enemies when thrown, making them great for taking out Bulborbs and other monsters. The purples's can also carry 10x they're own weight, basically, they count as ten pikmin when they carry an item. The downside? They're slower than all of the other Pikmin, even with flowers, meaning you have to wait for them often. They also carry items very slowly.

Whites have the special ability of surviving the new hazard of poision. They are also the fastest of the Pikmin, and can carry items the fastest. Also, when white pikmin are eaten, they do some pretty heavy damage to the opponent.

Yellow can no longer carry bomb rocks, as the bomb rocks now fall under Hazards: Explosion. They can however go up against electricity. They are still thrown the highest.

Red is about 1.5x to 2x stronger than the regulars, making them the best fighters for swarming enemys (purple's are too slow).

Blue is still the same, and when idle in water, they act as life guards for drowning pikmin a.k.a throw them towards land.

Also, the dungeons were a great addition to the game. The day limit stops when you're underground, but you CANNOT grow more Pikmin unless you find a certain candypop bud, 1 dungeon go's to about level 14 or 16.

One last thing. The challenge mode is more like "Dungeon Time Attack". Its one to two players working Co-Op, so its good fun. So is battle mode. Yes, nothing beats rocks falling on your opponents Pikmin.

Thanks for clearing that up. :D

I did find that weird that the game was delayed for quite some time.

but I guess they wanted to perfect that... and as long as they perfect a game by delaying it.... its fine with me.

SO the challenge mode has a time limit? That sounds like the last challenge mode from Pikmin 1.... IE collect a bunch of treasure and get out.
Do you have to collect certain parts like the 30 day deal in Pikmin 1.... or is it just 1 board at a time, collect as much booty as you can? :lol

I want this game.... I just don't have the cash for it :( anyone want to donate to the Bluevoodu fund? :lol

There's 200 treasure pieces in all. Well, actually 201, but the last one isn't actually a trasure, but counts as one. There is no limit to the number of days you can spend on the planet. The shortest possible I believe was 8, but you can take as many as you want, 30, or 300.

Challenge mode, is basically they throw you in a dungeon. ome are short, and some are long. Longest I believe is 5 for challenge mode (the longest dungeon in story mode is somewhere around 16-17). They give you a set amount of pikmin of each color. Your score is based on how many Pikmin survived, how much treasure you got, and how much time you had left before you exited the dungeon.

If you manage to keep all of your pikmin from dying, another cinema becomes unlocked, but I won't name it for spoilers sake (its funny too)

Well, tonight at my local Target, I decided to play GameCube for almost the first time in my life (the first time was in EB Games for about 15 seconds). I played a demo of Pikmin 2, and I would just like to say I wish I had money for a GC. Pikmin was amusing as heck, especially forcing them to pick up heavy pieces of junk while Cpt. Olimar just stood there like a dope. I'm sure if I actually knew the controls it's be better, but my experience so far with the GC was great.

I'm still not fond of the controller, but I could get used to it.

On your way out, please drop your donations for the "GC-4-Recky" fund in the box and he will be sure to pick it up when there's enough :p

Yeah, and Wal-Mart right now has a bundle that comes with a 251 memory card, so you don't have to spend extra on that.

If that's not appealing, wait until later in the month when Nintendo brings out the Mario Kart: Double Dash bundle. :D

Heh, try asking one for Christmas. GC's aren't too expensive, only about 100$
The only problem is that the $100 for a GC is about 1/15th of the total of every Xmas present I listed. I like to give a large list of games and other stuff so they can pick and choose :D

You lucky bastard. Practicality is the name of the game this year for Christmas. For once I'm actually hoping I get underwear from one of my relatives, maybe even some socks if I'm lucky. But easily my biggest hope for Christmas is a winter jacket or some new shoes, both of which I need desperately.

Yeah, I'll more than likely get about 2 games, a whole bunch of clothes, and some other random things. I gave a list of stuff just so I knew what I wanted, and to let them know some. I'm not hoping to get them all, as I don't have enough time with stupid school this year....
