lol I know what he's going through :) It's a normal reaction in the typical behavior in forums, they've been abused for so long that it's become a natural reaction to shoot first and then ask questions. Not your fault 8)

and Portal is a truly awesome game, I've heard of some people that had issues with Steam, but nothing major.

Portal is awesome, and the fact that Valve made it free is even better. :D
