I guess it is just the memories of the life that this place once had that comes crashing down. It use to be buzzing with posts daily. There use to be some excitement around here over games and their respective systems.

I still, in the back of my mind, think that the event of twitter, facebook, and other type new meeting places, have edged out forums to a certain degree. Times are changing.
I think that could be. The biggest difference I see is we aren't always getting new members like we were for about a year there. A lot of us are getting busy and there's no one to replace us.

neo geo has always been the golden ring on the merry-go-round for me. When I was young I just couldn't grab one. I've got a soft spot for the neo and love hearing about it and peoples' love for it. I've long since gotten rid of anything neo geo I had but I do miss my aes and my mvs cab like that first love you left when you moved out of state. I will find another gold system in a yard sell or at a flea market before I die, but yes, it is odd that the neo geo is getting love lately.

Definitely gonna have to look into a 360 slim now. My new house doesn't have wired internet in most of the rooms and my old 360 doesn't have wi-fi. Bummer.

So, you gonna sell me your old 360 next time you're in IN?

you've either gotta really love shooters and / or fighters for the system to even be worth while. These things came out around the 16 bit era where a super nintendo or genny was like 200 bucks the aes was like 800. (I really should fact check but I'm going off memory and the relevance is the 4x price difference not the actual price point) so only the uber rich or spoiled kids got one. My step brother's neighabor was an air traffic controller so we'd go to the neighabors house (had a kid close to our age) and play nam 1975 and samurai showdown on this fabled system and were amazed. The carts were huge and the memory size in em dwarfed what a nintendo or sega cart had. The problem was the price then made them rare, game developers were few and far between, but they lived off of their superior tech and their arcade dominance (the neo mvs was a cart based arcade machine that was pretty much everywhere, and really favored by collectors now because you can have 1 arcade machine and just change cartridges in it and play a different game; also nicer cabs had boards that took multiple carts). Now because the machine was so expensive it's hard to find, even now a used aes can fetch a $300 price tag fairly easy. games are around $100 each (talking aes here) some getting quite a bit more than that. The shooters and the fighters were really the systems crown achievements; not to say there's not other great games but you'll not find more than one or two you'll love outside of their two main genres (at least most dont), and if you do it'll be hard to track them down. The Neo CD is great as far as neo geo games at more reasonable prices and they're (or at least were) easier to find but the load times can be annoying and even now it looks like a good neo cd system is getting harder to find, plus the cd games aren't as collectable because of poor case design and rampant piracy.

If you're a serious retro type gamer you should definatly experience the neo geo and any collector covets any of the old neo systems and games.

The only retro system I had was a Genny I had for about 3 or 4 years. After that we hit nintendo 64 era and I never looked back. So it seems this system isn't the type of thing I would get.

But I do appreciate the whole of it explanation. It helped me definitely understand whats up

When it comes to those retro consoles, the Neo Geo rates 2nd in my most favorite. The Turbo Grafx 16 is my number one. :)

that's a tough one, the tg 16 was / is a lot less rare and worth a lot less. At one point in time I had the tg 16 with all the rare shooters and still didn't think it stood up against an aes. If you factor in the expanded game library on the TG16 and their price points it prolly edge out the Neo, but for me it's the exclusivity of the aes that's probably why i'm still a bit biased towards it.

For me it is the love of that old arcade shooter that the TG 16 library was full of. The variety also edged out the Neo Geo for top spot. But only by a frogs hair does it edge out the Neo.

When I got my Wii I was really interested in checking out the TG16 library on VC, never really got around to it, though.

Been watching a lot of the Summer Olympics. Only one event that I find hard to get into or accept as a sport and that is water polo. I find it very strange.

I didn't realize how tough water polo was until I watched the underwater cameras, they're knocking the crap out of each other. It's like playing football in middleschool - everyone kicking and pinching and scratching and spitting on the other team in the dogpile where no one can really see.

I, for some unexplainable reason, will watch the Olympics, but I will not watch any sports. I find it more interesting, I guess, because it is Nations and Countries coming together to compete. I find myself cheering, sometimes, for someone that is from some other country. And I hate it when someone has a bad time and bombs.

I think facebook takes a lot of the posts away from here, personally.

And I have been away becuz my kids r here for the sumer so I have been busy with them. Also, I started playing Maple Story again so now I am playing that and D and D online. My son got obsessed with Maple Story too. :D I am trying to get my husband addicted to it if I can somehow... lol

One thing I also think maybe makes stuff slow down here is that everyone is getting along. That is pleasant but arguments make people feel a need to post to clarify stuff er defend themselves etc and ppl post to pic sides er help others out etc..
