PS3 and Wii - No Killer Apps At Launch

I'm debating standing in line for both of these..which would involve a significant lack of sleep for me, especially since i'm going to the Cal vs. USC game on saturday. And I'm looking at what I want to play.

Each of the systems only has one game I want to play that's not readily availible on the 360.

Wii- Zelda, which is going to be on the GC too...so I dunno if that's worth my time.

PS3- Resistance: Fall of Man. This looks gorgeous and a lot of fun.

But the thing is..that's it. I mean, sure there's a couple of oookay titles, but nothing that makes me super excited other than those two. So...is it really worth it? Why bother with the hassle?

Second, I've been thinking about the PS3, and with only 300k units coming out, they're going to be very very far behind this cycle. Microsoft has a year on them, and by the time people actually start GETTING PS3s, Microsoft's already gonna have 20+ killer aps out there, so why would you buy something speculating on what's coming out? And the Nintendo's coming out at the same time..so everyone who has $600 waiting to buy the PS3 and sees it sold out will look at the million Wii's on the shelf and say...that's so cheap, I'll just get that. I'm worried thtat if I get a PS3, Sony won't come through and the system'll die.

Anyone have some good facts that can quell my fears? :)

Hmm, best thing to do is not rush out and get a system at launch. Be patient for at least 1/3 - 1/2 year and see how it goes.

It's usually best to wait. You've already explained why and it's completely understandable.

If it were me, I would try to read on all the systems as much as I can and see which console will provide the games I like the most. If you want to buy a console right now, then I would suggest a 360. It's established and it seems like you're leaning that way anyways.

I have a 360...I'm going to get a Wii on sunday because honestly the new gameplay makes me curious, but Sony doesn't really offer much. I would love it to, because I'd love to have a game I'd like but honestly I fear for its survival.

I can get another Wii soon I believe... if you don't want to stand in line or just don't have the desire to.  BUT if you already are getting one... n/m :)

I can't guarantee.  I do have 1 right now that I had pre-ordered that the person isn't responding to me via email or pm... so I don't know if they are still interested or not.  Thta might be free.  Your Zelda is in the bag though. :)  In fact... I should upload a pic of it right now  ;)

The only systems I get at launch are Nintendo systems... I've never had a Nintendo system I didn't like. for me it's a safe bet. I am still waiting on the 360... I might get one just for Gears of War... but when the price comes down.

Hey Dave, let me know about the Wii. You never answered me back. I may take it if the price is right and give you the business over CC.

Sounds good. LMK about the Wii when you get a chance. Hope you are feeling better. I am worn out this week and luckily have not gotten sick.

This is the year of the Wii60 as said in a press conference recently from a Microsoft exec. When the Nintendo person went up right after. He said "I agree with what he said". Haha so do yourselves a favor everyone. Get an Xbox 360 and a Wii...both combined are cheaper than the PS3.

Actually when the Nintendo rep was asked what he thought of what the MS rep had said, he said that he would rather have people just buy the Wii and a bunch of games. He didn't agree. But people should still get both, or all three if possible.

I think the Wii will have more sleeper hits. I mean Zelda is an obvious seller, but Rayman Raving Rabbids and Trauma Center will probably also do really well from word of mouth.

Personally I'm excited for the Wii and couldn't care less about the PS3. But I'm a Nintendo fan so that's to be expected.

I guess I would second what someone else said; do some research, find out what features the systems offer, what games are coming out for them, and from that figure out what will work best for you.

Just something to keep in mind, though, since you already have a 360: the PS3 and 360 will share many of the same titles. You can already see that with the PS3's launch. Call of Duty 3 and the whole EA line-up are already available on the 360. Future PS3 titles such as Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, Assassin's Creed, and Grand Theft Auto IV will also be coming out on the 360. It's even rumored that Konami wants Kojima to port MGS4 to the 360. It could be possible in the future that having a PS3 and a 360 would be redundant with their nearly identical libraries, unless you're a huge Halo fan and a huge Final Fantasy fan.

If you want to go multiconsole, IMO Wii60 or PSWii is a better combination because it cuts down on the redundancies. Games for the Wii that are also on the PS3 or 360 are still going to be different, and in addition the Wii will be the only system to get Nintendo franchises such as Zelda and Mario on.

Idk..I was jus hearin this straight from a Nintendo rep. Could've been a different meeting as well.

I liked how Mai mentioned Rayman Raving Rabbids. That game sounds cool to me. I mean rabbits in out houses....that's gotta be good!
