PSP pulls a silly stunt with the ability to download PS1 games...

$15 to download ONE PS1 game to your PSP....

Gran Turismo 2, Metal Gear Solid, and Final Fantasy 7 will be among the first

To me, that's just sad...all three of those titles we can get for $10 or less

The link doesn't work for me...

They're just doing what nintendo did with the GBA and they're 20 year old games... I don't see how this is a silly stunt... this is actually great for Sony and PSP owners

The only difference is you'd need some pretty big memory sticks to fit these games. Last I checked FF7 was 3 discs which would put it in the neighborhood of 2 gigs.

except you get a file instead of a real game like the GBA...

Silly? Maybe. Going to sell? Absolutely. Ive been hearing a lot of talk of how FF7 would be cool on a portable and now it will be. It's a novelty really but it's still going to sell. Im going to see how the game actually plays on a PSP before I consider buying FF7.

Ummm according to the article it's bogus. At least from the "official" standpoint. I'm sure someone workin' on an emulator, though like I said PS1 games may be just too big. That's a lotta money to spend of memory sticks.

I agree - why can't they release a bundle package? Hell, I'd even pay $15 a piece if they came with a physical package. Well, depending on the game of course.

I don't like digital distribution and Valve can go to hell :-P.

I'm a collector man. I have over a thousand games and I'm not interested in the least in digital distribution. It destroyes the very fabric of what gaming was always about. A dedicated console with it's own portable libary - no post-cart/cd issues that we see appearing in the PC market for over a decade now and the kind of behaviour we're now seeing in some portions of the home game market (PSP firmware, XBX Live updates/checks/spyoncustomer). I don't like it at all.

It's absolutely ridiculous that Valve require you to have an internet connection in order to play Half Life 2. Absolutely ridiculous.

I thought it was a little weird too. But, almost anyone with a machine that can run Half Life 2 will have the internet. A generalization, yes. But I would stake money on that.

I'd agree - but that's not the point at all.

it may be ridiculous... but I don't mind it that way... updates on the fly... etc.. makes things so much nicer. I actually like it as well.

That... and cheating doesn't SEEM to be as prevalent (in the VAC secured servers).
They did a lot with steam that's pretty cool.

$15 for a game that is a file only? IE no packaging ..etc... that's not cool. Too much IMO. the GBA did it.. . but at least there was a physical game... manual..etc.
the Revolution will do this... but if it's $15 per game, I can tell you it won't be successful.

Updates on the fly? If the game were solid it wouldn't have a need for updates. Gee, I'm glad I didn't have to fix the insta-death bug in Sonic the Hedgehog 2 when I got it for Christmas a decade ago...

I don't buy the PC market's shoddy craftsmanship as an excuse to get patches straight to you "faster and easier". Now we see this in examples like Unreal for X Box requiring patches. Do a better job! Don't encourage this.

well... at least the errors are corrected :)  unfortuantely, tons of glitches, exploits..etc.. get left in console games :)

No such thing as a perfect game... unless you have perfect code and in an imperfect world... that's never going to happen.  Even the best games to date have glitches and exploits.

Half Life 2 is a very very.. very nice game.  So is counter strike.

It's the nature of the PC beast... NOW.... since they started doing this to some console games, I don't like that... and I don't accept it for console games. I am a big PC gamer... but I am also big into many of the consoles. There are some shoddy pc games... but man... there is a lot to be missed not playing pc games.

I wait for the patch to fix my problems :lol

Oblivion has quite a few bugs in it, nasty ones too. As in, you can't complete the quest/questline bad. But I merely find something else to do in the game while I'm waiting for the patch.

I don't mind, and whining about it doesn't get anyone anywhere.

But also, with your analogy to Sonic the Hedgehog, as opposed to a game of today, it is really not that complex. I don't program, or know much about programming, but I would imagine games that are less complex are less prone to having bugs or glitches.

Of course Oblivion has mega-bugs - it's Bethesda Softworks. "Glitch" is their middle name, man. I'm actually surprised to find less bugs in Oblivion than Daggerfall.

And my reference to Sonic could easily be altered to compare to something like Quest for Glory IV on PC. A very simple game for its time, a point and click adventure title at the high of that genre - SVGA graphics, what could go wrong? A lot on a PC platform.

A lot does go wrong on the PC platform, but that's only because nobody can really come in and set standards for it since there are so many different pieces that go into making a game work. The developer literally does not have anybody telling them what minimum requirements they can use and what bugs can be left behind and leave up to patches.
