April 4, 2007 - The Wii version of Resident Evil 4 was confirmed earlier today for inclusion in the elite "Worst Kept Secrets" club as Famitsu spilled the beans on the title in its latest issue. The Famitsu report comes following the game's appearance in retailer databases on two continents.

Titled Biohazard 4 Wii Edition in Japan (the RE series is known as Biohazard in its home country), this update promises full Wiimote support. The Wiimote is used to aim a targeting cursor in order to target and fire at your enemies. To reload, you hold down on the B trigger and shake the Wiimote. In case you were wondering, the built-in speaker is being programmed with a reload sound effect.

The Wiimote is also used for close-range attacks. When an enemy approaches, all you have to do is give the Wiimote a little of the shake-shake. The game automatically detects the direction of the enemy and makes Leon perform a knife attack. This move can also be used against trees and barrels.

The rest of the game has also been modified to take account of the Wii's unique controller. Interactive event scenes display the Wii buttons when prompting for input. Some events require that you shake the Wiimote.

The producers of the Wii version revealed to Famitsu that one of their goals is to allow families who play the Wii together to experience Resident Evil. The game will include "Easy" and "Amateur" difficulty settings, selectable from the start, that will make aiming easier and keep your life from depleting too fast.

Even if you're a RE pro, you'll probably want to take a look at the Wii version, especially if you didn't try out the PS2 version of the game. All the bonus elements that made it into the PS2 version are being included in the Wii release. That includes the "The Another Order" sequence, where you play as Ada.

And on top of all that is a first look at Umbrella Chronicles! A trailer for the first original Wii entry in the Resident Evil series (be sure and check out our separate preview) will be included with RE4 Wii Edition.

RE4 is set for Japanese Wii release on 5/31. While it hasn't officially been announced outside of Japan yet, its appearance in retailer databases late last week suggests that Wii players everywhere will get to experience this Capcom classic through a new control scheme.

I think this is cool. I already have RE4 on the Gamecube but I might get this so I can play the Ada stuff and because the controls will probably be interesting.

That is sweet. I guess speculation will grow more with games like this to be ported.

Anyway, I did play through RE4 on GC multiple times, but i never owned it. So this would be a perfect chance to own it and with extra stuff. However, besides the difficulty level selection and what was added for PS2, they don't seem to have added too much. Oh well.

Very cool, but kinda weird that they would promote an "M" rated title as a family oriented gaming experience.

"Look out for the chainsaw, mommy! AIYEE!!! :'("

Meh, how about a game that hasn't already been released?

Seems like the trend. Remake old games or make games with "2, 3, 4, etc" at the end of their name.

This is another play from Nintendo in their attempt to appeal to both casual and hardcore gamers. And I think they also realize that a lot of kids play M rated games who really shouldn't. Or possibly the wording was bad and it wasn't meant to be interpreted literally.

I think it's that Nintendo is trying to appeal to the hardcore gamers. After all, Manhunt is coming to the Wii also...

Cool. Hopefully the Wii controls work. Also I hope it's only $20. I love the GC version to death, so this better at least be on par in the fun factor.

The Wii deserves better than a game that nearly every Nintendo fan has already played through.

Personally what I was secretly hoping for in terms of an RE game on the Wii was an idea that was scrapped early on in RE4's development. If anyone remembers the game used to set "Leon" in a mansion(or spooky, large house of somesort) but the unique difference with this game was that the power was off, and your character had a flashlight. I think this gameplay mechanic lends itself perfectly for the Wii controls because you could actually hold the nunchuk like a flashlight and the wii-mote like a gun. As well, I think an RE game where you actually control the flashlight and gun in a mansion where there is no other light source could lend itself to some incredibly scary moments. I had a hard enough time keeping my hand steady to move a joystick, I can imagine how much of a rush it could be to actually keep my hand steady while trying to shoot a zombie, especially if I need to aim my other hand correctly to see it.

I also hope they don't get too crazy with the interactive cut-scenes. After playing Wario Ware, Monkey Ball, and handful of other Wii titles I'm starting to get a little tired of all the mini-games. I don't want the wii-mote to be used for nothing better than an elaborate version of "Bop It."

Oh man...what a disappointment....for the love of it Nintendo...just let the Wii users use their Gamecube versions.... :-\

Being able to point and click isn't going to make me want to play through that game again.

It also has all the features that were put into the PS2 version. So if there's anyone who never played the PS2 version and wanted to play as Ada, they can do that with the Wii version.

I'm with Jack. New features or not, it's not enough to make me want to play through the game again. I found it terribly overrated the first time and it got to the point where I just ran through the rest of the game so I could beat it and then sell it.
