I probably got some stuff mixed up. I love cars but i dont know too much about them. All i know about my car is whats in it and that its got some serious balls. i will find out the right hp though

yeah and find out the HP to the wheels.

Well Maiden Fan, gaming is my cheap hobby. My other more expensive hobby involves cars.
Usually a stock or lightly modified 350 will put out 220-300. And that's without cracking open the bottom or any head work. In my opinion, if I had an Elco I'd buy a GM Performance Parts 350. Out of the box it is rated anywhere between 370 and 400 at the crank. And it's also a four bolt main, so sticking on a supercharger would be perfectly safe. Although limiting it to about 8 pounds would keep you from running 100 octane to reduce detonation.

:lol

I think Dart is like some kind of mechanic or something. I understand him, but some of the stuff I dont then I got to go search on Google and find out, but its all good though. Learning is fun! :D</geeky kid>

why is everyone worried about horsepower?.... its not just about the horses.. its also about the torque.  You can have lower horses and higher torque and it willl be fast.

My car only has 218-230 horses... BUT it has around 300lbs of torque.... stock

BV :hat

True. Torque gets the car moving. Horsepower keeps it going faster. If an engine produces 300 lbs-ft of torque and, say, 2,500 RPMs, but has 190 HP, then the car will be fast from street light to street light. But it will struggle on a freeway on ramp.
Case in point. My '79. In stock form it puts out 185/320. At 25 pounds on 325/60R15 BFG Drag Radials, my 60ft time at the track was 1.6. Not bad, but I only did a 16.1 at something like 88-90 miles per hour.
Traditionally, a small block that puts out 350HP will usually put out 390-420, depending on the stroke.

@ Bman, I used to turn wrenches for a living. I hated it because nobody trusts mechanics. Now I sell tires at a "large independent tire retailer." More money, more fun too!! :D

How did you know I don't trust mechanics? :lol j/k

Sometimes it is hard to trust them..... I have to admit.
of all the stuff I have had done to my car, it seems that I still have problems at times :-\

I used to be one, and I don't trust them most of the time. When my van was in the shop, I got charged for towing, even though when I dropped it off it had a full tank, and when I picked it up it was empty. That means they drove the van about 300 miles or so, assuming that they let it idle a bit for tests. And now my winshield wipers are stuck in the "on" position. :hh

Now what mechanic you guys know that isn't a jerk? I hope you guys complained to the people that were servicing your vechile.

Um, me?? I never took advantage of any customer. One customer who was treated well would tell three or four friends. One who was treated badly would tell 15 or 20. I left because it was frustrating to me that the ones that were jerks made the good ones out to be jerks too.

Well that has to suck then.

Tell me this though, why are rotary engines so good? I mean I know that engines are like the brains and heart of a car. I totally lack engine knowledge, I only know so much. :-\

I thought that rotary engines sucked? Yes Dart enlighten us on this one. :D

Well, I honestly have never worked on a rotary. They are basically exclusive to Mazdas. I have heard that they are extremely reliable and that they have a broader powerband. Traditional 4, 6, and 8 cylindar engines have a powerband that either spikes at a certain RMP range either at the low end mid. But Rotary engines, as well as VW and Audi W8 engines are Greek to me.
And to think, I used to have the GM small block V8 firing order memorized...

I was looking on eBay yesterday and I saw a '86 Mazda Rx-7 Turbo II with a 2-cylinder and I thought to myself that couldn't be right! Aren't most cars like 4? I know that Honda Civic's are stocked with a 4 cylinder. There's no way that a rotary engine can have a 2 cylinder, they either made a typo or just dont know anything about their engine. The truck that I drive is a V6, I think it has like 143hp but sounds like it has 300hp though due to the exhaust kit, that's another thing I hate to see, seeing STOCKED cars with a highend exhaust kit.

I dont think a car should sound like its fast unless it can back it up

I dont have a problem with cars having a throaty sound to them. As long as people dont rev it and act like there car is fast then im ok with it. Especially since my mustang is only a V6 but has a dual flowmaster exhaust kit. But I dont drive fast or rev my engine.

Then what's the point in having the exhaust kit then? I know you showoff sometimes, so dont act like you dont. I showoff in my dad's truck, I rev the engine up and I speed just for the hell of it, but I only do it when Im bored driving and when there's open road.

I didn't know that a the cylinder are actually shaped as a "V." One of my online buddies told me about it and he kept talking about how he wanted a "inline 6" Im like "Wtf is the difference between inline 6 and V6?" He told me that inline 6 was lighter and some other stuff that I cant remember, this convo was like 2hrs ago. *starts playing GT3*

Actually I dont. I know its hard to believe but I dont. I just like my car to sound a certain way. It has nothing to do with racing or anything like that. I would only show off if I actually had a car to show off like a Cobra Mustang or a Saleen. :af

you know what I cannot stand... are the lawn mower mufflers on some cars.... *mainly honda / other imports*
Blerrrrrrmmmm
