Rise of Nations: Gold Edition versus Empire Earth 2

Im considering buying one of these games. Now, here's the deal. I have played Rise of Nations, and I liked it. It is also cheaper. According to gamerankins.com, Empire Earth 2 got an average score of about 80/100. Which is a respectable score. Rise of Nations (the expansion pack for it at least) got an average score of about 87/100. Both games are very close as far as rating goes, so that isn't any help. Rise of Nations goes for about 30, while Empire Earth 2 has a price tag of about $50.

Can anyone help me decide? My biggest complaints about Rise of Nations are the lack of an American Army, poor camera controls (three levels of zoom only, no panning? WTF?), and the overall length and complexity of the game. I played a tutorial mission for over 2 hours...online games could last for a lot longer. But Empire Earth looks to be even more complex, or at least AS complex, and with 15 ages instead of like 7, I could see games lasting several hours.

So, could anyone tell me about Empire Earth? Complexity and length of the games mainly.

Well I looked on Gamespot and the users rated Rise of Nations GE a 92 and the users rated EE2 81. I dont know if that will effect your decision. My friend had his cousins over and they played a 2v2 game on Rise of Nations for over 4 hours. So I can imagine how long the games could take. I read the reviews at Gamespot, and I would go with Rise of Nations Gold Edition.

I was leaning towards that, largely because of better reviews on the whole and better prices, but I want to hear something about Empire Earth 2. In the long run I may get both, but Rise of Nations is so complex, I almost wish there was a co-op mode where each person controls the same army and resources etc. They had that on Starcraft 64, really quite interesting. Only problem is sometimes you argue over resources.

I wish I could.. never played Empire Earth 2..

BUT.... Rise of Nations: Gold Edition is AWESOME!

Bv :hat

lol maybe its a sign Spartan. No one here plays EE2 but they play RON. Maybe you should get RON

Wow. Just wow. I played Empire Earth 2...easily one of the best RTS games I have ever played. My friend bought it, after I suggested it to him. I played it a bit. It has great graphics, full zoom and 360 degree panning. There are, I think, 15 civilizations to choose from. There are 15 epochs, basically levels of technology, that extend from Stone Age to Synthetic Age. Formations are awesome, albeit slightly limited. But the PIP takes the cake. It basically lets you monitor, or even control, areas of the map apart from your main display. Kinda hard to explain, but it is like having a second monitor. Really tight.

I played both, and enjoyed Empire Earth II more than Rise of Nations. Granted, I did not play either of the two for an extended period of time, however I prefer Empire Earth II mostly due to the graphical enhancements.

Rather than going out on a limb and purchasing one, why not download the demos and try them out for yourself? Hey, it's better than making the wrong decision :D

empire earth is just more of what you have already played

but rise of nations took the genera and super sized it with much more depth
