Rock Band: Xbox 360 gets Wired Guitars, PS3 gets Wireless

In the latest OXM Podcast, Harmonix CEO Alex Rigopulos confirms that the Xbox 360 guitars for Rock Band are wired in the bundles. There will be wired and wireless versions available for the Xbox 360, but once again, the retail bundles will come with a wired guitar. The PS3 guitars are all wireless. The Xbox 360 bundle will also come with a USB hub for all the peripherals to plug into. On both the Xbox 360 and PS3 version the microphone and drum kit will be wired. Rigopulos says, "The cost of wireless technology on the Microsoft side is higher and to be able to offer those bundles at a price point that would be reasonable for consumers it was necessary ... on the 360 side we are also bundling a hub."

And no, there is no official price yet. It's starting to look like the $20 difference between the Xbox 360 wired and wireless guitar we reported after receiving an internal Game Crazy memo is holding up. So, that's that, the Xbox 360 bundle of Rock Band has a wired guitar and you'll get a little hub to plug everything in. Now comes the question if Microsoft will loosen their grip on the cost of licensing the proprietary wireless tech if the PS3 version of Rock Band sells stronger (comparatively given its lower install base) due to its wireless advantage. In the end, we don't blame Harmonix/EA/MTV for this wired issue -- although it was shady of them to hide it this long -- we're more upset that the consumer is going to get an inferior product due to an obnoxious licensing issue. It's deja vu all over again.

Apparently wireless technology is harder to make for the 360 than the PS3, as the article states.

I don't think this will hold back the Xbox360 version as the PS3...I think there will be wired guitars for Xbox360 later on.

You mean wireless? Of course it won't hold back the sales, but since the PS3 is incorporating achievements as well, I'm torn between which one to get.

Ouch...heres a question to TRY to narrow it down....

Which one has the better online connection?

Well, Rock Band is playable online, and more people have 360s, so you'd potentially have more people to play it with on the 360.

True.....maybe the wireless guitars will add on the price to the PS3 game since it'll probably in a bundle like Guitar Hero.

Well both of the bundles are the same price as far as I know...but I would have fun rocking out with people on here like Mega or Mai...but Idk if anyone here is getting this.

I will hopefully for my birthday depending if we move out of our really nice apartments to a house....(My mom doesnt like it when I play Guitar Hero at the apartment... :lol)

No, I don't think I will be getting this. If anything I'll be getting Guitar Hero 3, but even that I'm not sure about. Unless I grow a money tree or something. :lol

It's because wireless is easier to make for the PS3....for some reason. They still should try really hard to please the 360 owners with wireless...I mean, with the amount of 360 owners compared to the amount of PS3 owners, you would think it would be the other way.

Nah, I don't think Rock Band is being committed to a single system. That would be some pretty big news. :lol
:lol

But, 360 will get better attention than the PS3 because more users......

Yes we are, haha. I'm still wondering though if the only reason for the PS3 getting wireless over 360 is because of how much easier it is to develop wireless for the PS3. Guitar Hero 2 Wireless Guitars are and have been plentiful...how come the guitars for Rock Band are having a hard time?

Is Rock Band by a different company? Maybe it's their first time making a music game with a guitar......just a guess. :-\ Don't know who it's by honestly.
