RUMOR: Blu-Ray 360 back in the news?

Re: RUMOR: Blu-Ray 360 to be revealed TOMMORROW

Whoa. O_o My dad was asking about this last night. Weird... :lol

http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/09/microsoft-denies-latest-round-of-blu-ray-for-360-rumors/

And now Microsoft denies once again!

Good grief, Charlie Brown.

I thought we were done with this whole 360/blu-ray thang. I don't think the 360 needs to have the attachment to sell, or at least it hasn't needed it at all so far. I'm not saying it would be bad if it did happen, but why the insistence on proving or debunking these rumors?

Is anyone really basing their choice of getting a 360 or PS3 on the blu-ray issue alone?

Well, alot of people have purchased a PS3 because it's one of the cheapest blu-ray players you can get. My uncle's looking at getting one solely for blu-ray as well....when I used to work at Best Buy alot of people wanted them for the players too.

This isn't a huge percentage of people I would say though.

That's a good point. Is having a Blu-ray add-on going to make the 360 look like a viable option for people who are mostly interested in Blu-ray? Wouldn't the average customer, one that is more inclined to buy a console because of its movie playback capability, going to see the 360 and Blu-ray add on as the same thing?

I don't know, to me it still seems like buying a console apart from a blu-ray player, and I don't know how much having the option to purchase an add on would change that perception. If the technology was integrated into the console itself (say a Blu-ray drive) then sure, but that's a slap in the face to everyone who already bought a 360, and would then literally use PS3 technology in the 360 which would be a PR nightmare.

It just seems unnecessary, unless somehow Microsoft can find a way to really make these two products seem like they are in fact one product.
