S.T.A.L.K.E.R: Oblivion with guns

Apparently this game has been vaporware since nearly 2003, but is now due out next week (in spring break none the less :lol)

It's set in an alternate reality where the Chernobyl power plant blows up a second time and the area around it (named, The Zone) becomes mutated and hell just breaks loose.

Generally, it's like Oblivion, in that it's free-roaming. Apparently the AI in it (called the AL life system) puts Bethesda's Radiant AI to shame. And it's an FPS :D

I already pre-ordered it from Best Buy (free shipping!), and it looks awesome. And since it was started back in '02 ish, it can play on anything from then (Direct X 8.1) to today!

I hear the game is poorly optimized to the point where even the most powerful systems have a hard time running with dynamic lighting on, something that's probably been in games since early 3D.
 
Hmm. Sounds cool. I'd like to play a demo first.

Hopefully patches will fix that, if the modding community doesn't. I remember reading on the development of this way back in like '03. With the recent jump of PC technology over that 4 to 5 year period, compatibility will be hell.

Yes, the optimization is terrible. It really seems to come down to whether it likes your computer or not. People with GeForce 7900's have reported lots of slowdown, and others with say, an X800 XT get along just fine.

There has been two patches so far, each of which improves performace somewhat.

Also, the most well known performance mod is called the Float32 mod, which makes Dynamic Lighting work much better.

Just an FYI, there's no demo. The game's AI and environment is too complicated, or so I've heard, to make a demo (like Oblivion).

Omg. What made me think this was for the 360? I don't even remember posting that one. What the hell was I thinking?


What does everyone think about the game anyways now that its out (besides bugs and glitches).
 
Ive played this game and to be honest i didn't like it that much personly i think you die way to fast if your in a open area with like 2 or 3 people shooting at you and you cant run your basically screwed :\. The AI isn't anything to woo about and the radioactive crap that hurts you is just annoying because it's basically every where you go i know there was a radioactive spill in the story line but that crap is just annoying :\.

Even though it took like 3 or 4 years to come out it still had bug's in it when i played >:( like when a NPC was holding a gun sometimes it would be floating in the air but the NPC would still be in the stance that he is holding a gun and the Silencer gun was all messed up. We even patched it all up but we still had these problems also the acoustic guitars that are played by the NPCs some times was also screwed up.

Fallout>Oblivion (lol I'm saying this and I can't get past the 10th hour of the original because of some stupid glitch that makes my computer crash, but I'm playing 2 and its also awesome, although I kind of wish it was made after devs stopped using isometric perspective).
