Several questions about the PSP...

SpartanEvolved
Alrighty then...I've been looking at getting a PSP, and I was wondering...

1. What is the battery life? Is it as big of a problem as people make it out to be?
2. What good games are out/are coming out in the near future?
3. How are the controls? Not for any particular game, but in general?
4. What kind of media can it play? Does the media have to be on a memory stick?
5. What features does a link to a PC offer?
6. Durability? (I've heard the analog nub breaks off, also is the screen prone to scratches?)
7. How large is it? I know it can be an MP3 player, but is it something you could carry around and listen to, or is it more of a "Keep this at home" device?

8.How is the web browsing? What kind of sites can you go to, and what can you do there? (Like, could I come here and post with a PSP if I wanted to?) Also, what would be required to go online? I have a fairly simple wireless network at my house, would that be sufficient?

Thanks in advance.

OK I can answer a few questions:

1. Honestly its not really bad. It lasts me about three hours with full power on (Bright screen, full sound, wifi on, etc.)
2. The only one that I can think of is GTA.
3. Even though they are identical to the PS systems it feels a little weird. Especially if you have big hands, there isnt much to grip and your fingers might slip onto the screen. Which you dont want since the screen gets smudged pretty easily. The home and start buttons are a little hard to press they put them at ackward positions. Which also includes the volume controls and select button.
4. It can play UMD discs which is its primary media. You can put stuff on memory sticks but it is a little bit of a hassle depending on what you are putting in it.
5. The only ones I know of are able to store files onto the memory stick like if it was a removable drive. You can put any kind of file on the stick, but your PSP cant read all of them. Also hacks depending what kind of firmware your PSP has.
6. I hardly use the nub. I dont really like the range and is too loose. So I havent had any problems with it. The screen is prone to scratches but is easily protectable.
7. Well the price alone makes it a keep at home device (to me anyways). As an MP3 player its ok, it gets the job done. But get better headphones if you plan on hearing music. It is slightly bulky, especially if you have a protective case for it.
8. I havent tested it out since I dont have wireless internet at my house. But yes your network is sufficient just enter the information it requires and you should be fine.

Can anyone tell me about the web browsing?

1: its pretty good, you can get about six hours out of a 2D game like Darkstalkers or Lumines, and about 3 hours on 3D game like GTA
2: I've been playing alot of Lumines, Darkstalkers, and of course, GTA
3: not its strongest suit, but its deffiently more tolerable then the DS controls.
4: it plays music and movies, they can be transfered by memory stick, or bought on UMD, although the music collection is weak, you are bound to find something you like on UMD in terms of movies.
5: don't know
6: my nub broke off, but its still playable, and easy, it doesn't really scratch that bad as long as you keep it in the slipcase
7: I haven't been able to acess any sites, it just says connection not found.

I really would like to know more about the battery, that seems to be the biggest problem from what I hear.

Meh. Battery power isn't a problem. From my experience, if you charge it when you aren't using it you won't have a problem. But, it is relatively short, maybe 8 hours tops from a full battery.

And also the battery wastes even when you dont use it. If you leave your PSP alone for a few days dont be surprised if it doesnt turn on.

That is true. But, like I said, if you charge it when you aren't using it you should be fine. However, a car adaptor would be necessary for a roadtrip.

Yeah, I have one of those too. I just wish it didnt waste that much when left alone. A car adapter is pretty much essential since it is a portable.

I think it only wastes battery when you put it to sleep. I haven't tested this theory though, as it always sits charged when I'm not using it.

the internet is slow on it it takes about half a minute to load each page. the wifi is good if you have an open network (hehe most people dont secure it in my neighborehood...free internet) but if theres no wireless or open networks then youre screwed on the internet
