Single Best Game Of Last Gen?

well idk what Mai thinks but imo Tales of the abyss is better than symphonia but not by a whole lot....
(all of this is MY OWN OPINION XD)

gameplay = Abyss > symphonia. definetly because of the mystic arts, individual overlimit bars and free-run. not to mention battles against god generals felt chaotic
Story = Symphonia > Abyss. Symphonia just had a lot more plot twists than tales of the abyss did and abyss just had a huge downtime in part of the story but after that it becomes great, is just not as good as symphonia
Characters = Abyss > Symphonia. I really am not saying Symphonia characters are not great....however i just LOVE tales of the abyss characters a LOT more *looks at Jade Curtiss* Symphonia characters though deep in personality had a bit of a cliche personality sometimes however all of Abyss characters were original to me even the villains
Multiplayer = Symphonia > Abyss. obviously due to the fact the GC already had 4 ports to begin with it makes playing multiplayer in symphonia a lot easier.
Sound = Abyss = Symphonia. i really don't know which one to pic for this one.... i like the voice acting/music in both games equally so i really can't pick here
graphics= (who cares but meh) Abyss > Symphonia. i just liked the art style and the effect of the mystic artes in abyss XD

results are Abyss = 4. Symphonia 3. and that's why (however i would like to add that ToS2 is also up there in my list of Tales games but it does not matter in this thread XD)

Really? What makes you pick that over Symphonia? ...And darn now I regret trading Abyss!

Well I still love Symphonia, but stripping away the nostalgia factor of Symphonia being my first Tales ever, I think Abyss is just a better game overall.

I disagree with Zi about the storyline. I think Abyss has a better plot. Symphonia does a better job of fleshing it out without doing sidequests, but if you do the sidequests in Abyss, particularly the Natalia storyline, I think it creates an overall better story.

But I will say that it could be the music that influences that thinking. In Abyss, I can never hear my favorite music from that game without thinking of the particular part of the game where it was introduced. It was just a very impactful moment.

I agree with Zi's assessment of the gameplay. Free run especially makes fighting a lot more fun.

I also agree with Zi's assessment of the characters. You all know I love Zelos, Sheena, and Raine from ToS, but I loved like...EVERY character in Abyss. Jade is awesomesauce, but so was Tear, Luke, Anise, Guy, and Natalia. And even the villains were cool. Asche, Dist, and Legretta especially.

Multiplayer - well I really didn't do multiplayer in either one, so you'll have to take Zi's word on that.

Sound - I think Abyss has the better soundtrack. But the voice acting is awesome in both Symphonia and Abyss, so I can't pick one for that.

Graphics - Well I don't know. I think they're pretty even.

Anyway, I recommend Abyss to anyone who likes rpgs. ^__^

Thanks, Mai! I wish Abyss wasn't so rare. ToS is still pretty cheap and easy to find, not so much with ToA. But I seriously love ToS so I'll gladly pay $50 for a used ToA which is what it looks like I'll have to pay if I want the case and manual.

That is seriously hard question, espically to only pick one in the end. I loved so many games on the last gen like okami, ico, shadow of the collossues, jak and daxter series, ffx, god of war, both kingdom hearts, rouge galaxy but to only pick one out of the lot is really hard.

If i thought about it and had to really pick one it would probley be....~god so hard~ i would go with........Okami i think as much as i loved all of the other games this is prob the one that i loved the most over all

i totally forgot about Sidequests. Thanks Mai

Sidequests = abyss > Symphonia. because the subplots of Abyss are very interesting and like mai said they really do add up to the storyline.

i really like both games a lot i just prefer abyss a little bit more for reasons stated above

Resident Evil 4 is my personal favorite. It took a dead series and completely hit it out of the park.
welcome to the forums! Glad to have you on board!

Single best game is VVERRRYY hard to decide. I mean a big contender would be Super Smash Brothers Melee... There are a lot of contenders... I mean, how could we narrow this down? :lol

†B†V† :hat

Melee was definitely the best game on the Gamecube. Pretty sure it remained the most popular (on GameFAQs) for the entire lifespan of the Cube

The more I think about it, it has to be Halo or Halo 2. Simply because no other game had such an extreme impact on the industry as Halo 2. I mean, Halo 2 is the definitive game of that era. It made XBL a household thing and that game alone is pretty much the main reason for the 360's success. Just think about how different things would be if there had not been Halo? Would MS be where they are with the 360? I honestly highly doubt it.

I find interesting the lack of anyone talking about a mario platformer and knowing there's a ton of Nintendo fans on this site and that bias not weighing in on their choices.

Putting favorites aside I'll have to agree with about half the people posting and say Halo 2. Halo 2 sold xboxes. Halo 2 made people ok with paying for an online service the other consoles were giving away for free. I would have never ever purchased an xbox if halo 2 hadn't come out. Halo 2 also made FPS into an online favorite. It'd been done before, Halo, Socom, (insert game here), but Halo 2 really brought it to the masses. My roommate and I each bought 360's on release as well as 5 or 6 games and we were still playing halo 2 over any title out there. That seemed a common occurance online at the time as well. Halo 2 made online multiplayer and I'd venture to say it MADE xbox.

Last gen's Mario platformer was Super Mario Sunshine, though. I don't think it was all that stellar to begin with. You'd have to be pretty biased to claim that SMS was the best game of last gen when there were platformers like Ratchet & Clank that were a lot better.

Took the words right outta my mouth.
