Slug 3

wheelaa

Be good...but if not, don't get caught!
Just picked up Metal Slug 3 on PS2.

I reckon it looks the part, sounds the part (mostly), and is good fun......but it just lacks that indefinable something that makes the aes version so much better. All in all most disappointing (although I like the munch challenge too much!).

What do you reckon? Anyone played both versions and can name that something that is missing?

Maybe the different controller?

Could well be...but I use the small ngcd orientated pad anyhow which is similar to the ps2 one I suppose (well similar in that it isn't a massive joystick :lol)

I had an extensive session at the weekend and it just doesn't have the right feel on the ps2. The sound isn't as loud and vibrant and the playability has been tweaked for the worse imo. Just little differences like how many shots a boss might take before ramping up his attack speed/rate etc. Plus it did seem a little easier but that's by the by really.

I haven't played it on PS2...I try and stay away from Neo ports to be honest...they never "feel" or look quite right imo.

Metal Slug 3 has been out on the Japanese and Korean PS2 for ages.

The biggest problems I had with the port were the odd bouts of slowdown (which normally occured when nothing was on-screen... and the areas that the cart slowdowns which were normally helpful run at normal speed) and the lack of a true MVS difficulty setting (the X-Box version is also lacking the MVS difficulty setting).

I've got it on uk ps2 and uk xbox.

I think I've figured out my major gripe..it looks like they've done some higher res thing or something..it doesn't quite look the part. AES rocks lets be honest people:))))))
