Let's not make this a flamewar between "I love MGS!" and "I love MGS2!!", so keep this serious. Graphics and sound don't count, as a newer MGS will obviously have better looks and sound that the previous ones. MGS4 will make MGS3 look very outdated, so say the least. (but then again it's on PS3).
I have played all three and don't know what I feel about the third one.

For starters, I'm one of those who loved the first one and hated the second. This is mainly because I thought the characters in the first one were a lot better, the story more interesting and the gameplay had enough weirdness to be really enjoyable. (short version, a boss in the first one reads your gamepad to predict your every move. This means you can't beat the boss unless you use the other gamepad for that particullar fight.)

I like the story in the third one (although I haven't gotten far. I've only met that Ocelot guy. The characters are more like they are in the first one (again, I met Ocelot. Just like in the first game.) You play Snake again, although with a different name. That's a major improvement over the first one. And speaking of Majors, he shal be called... Tom. Major Tom, if you like. :D (in case you don't know, David Bowie has a song called "Ground control to Major Tom"). That wasa funny.

On the other hand, I don't like the fact you don't have a radar. The first part of the game should be very easy, but the lack of radar makes it really hard. Sure you can wack all the guards (and they even run out of reinforcements), but this is a stealth game. Major Tom say over and over and over that you should not fight at all throughout the entire mission, and I know it is fully possible. But again, no radar, no way.

That said, it's a great game. I like it almost as much as the first one. What do you think?

It definately sounds challenging. Whilst I loved them, I was never any good at the MGS games (or any stealth games). I relied on the radar a lot. I'm gonna buy this one though, as it should provide a true challenge.

So we started with Major Tom. Later that woman talked on and on and on about Godzilla (Are they still making them in forty years?) :D and other crap like that. Sadly, that is about the only good part in this game. I hate it.

Two reasons. First of all, the lack of radar makes this unplayable. It would have worked if we could at least have a free camera, but no. Fixed camera, no radar.
Second, I ran into two bosses. As I mentioned * spoilers* in the top, here's how that went.

First boss? Beat up three times - in the first cut-scene. When I finally got to fight him, all he did was stand around doing nothing or jump behind rocks. That sucked. I had my hopes up when I found a new boss two minutes later, but this was pretty much the same. Out with the AK, wait until the bees leave his body, let rip. He was dead in a matter of seconds.

We can only hope MGS4 will be better. Last I heard it's in a city or something, so who knows? Just please, please give me a radar!

I read a preview of MGS4 on IGN, and can say already now that I hate it. If you think MGS2 messed it up, think again. This junk is aweful to say the least, and that's just the characters alone.

Well, the producer said they learned how to read memory cards when they made MGS (so you need to switch controller to be able to beat a boss since he reads your memory) and want to more things like that. He even said if it was possible to physically break the disc when the player dies in the game, he would do it to teach the player that life is more than just a game and can't be restarted. Or something like that.

If that isn't enough to make you run away screaming, here's a few other facts.
* Several characters will return - yet not one interesting one. That gay guy from MGS2? The one everyone hated? He'll play a major part. Some Snake-ish character will most likely be included, but not likely as a playable character. Most of the returning characters are from MGS2, which had the worst characters yet. More or less none from MGS1 returns. (some, not all.)
* It takes place in a city of some sort.
* Still no radar, and yet you need it more than ever.
* The story will not follow MGS1, 2 or 3 - but all three of them at once? :? He said something about the entire thing being a conspiracy or some crap like that. I have no idea what he meant by that. Far as I know, there's no real connection between the other games in the first place.

And so on and so on and so on. Yuck.

hey come om, the lack of radar makes the games look more realistic.. metal gear solid 3 setting was in the 50s. in the 50s there is no such thing as radar. that why you need to make full use of your camoflage skills and first person viewing to look for guards and other things. i know its tiring to keep changing to fp viewing. anyway i feel that mgs3 has the best storyline in the series.. i feel sad for big boss, we all know why big boss turned "evil" after what happened to his mentor the boss.
