Square employee admits Final Fantasy XII was a mess-up

In an interview with Famitsu, Square employee Akitoshi Kawazu blames his team for the problems with FF12.

he admits fans were not pleased with the story and blames the FF tactics teams and FFXI team saying they are not creative pointing out how there is a big creative difference in the company.....

He also criticizes the Gambit systems which makes the game play itself and regrets not adding certain features to the game as they originally planned such as 2 player cop-op (maybe they left that for FF13)

He also said that he was pleased with Famitsu's 40/40 rating but admitted that FF12 was not perfect.....

Kinda weird. A 40/40 from Famitsu's nothing to scoff at...

heh i don't think he understands that maybe some fans were not pleased with the games but a lot of other people were, i honestly liked the political intrigue storyline and the battle system, i didn't use gambits that much because they did take away the fun out of the game but without most of them it was still an FF game that i truly liked.

sucks for him having regrets (even though he's the developer) but i truly enjoyed the ivallice alliance

Yeah, though I didn't care too much for FF12, I think it's great that he thinks this game wasn't that great. With all the great reviews and fans, I can only wonder what FFXIII will be like.

well they decided to take one step forward and one step back with FFXIII, they still don't have random encounters but the system is more turn based (even though FFXII had a disguised turn based system).

honestly he did a very good job with the game, it just wasn't something EVERYBODY would like, which is common in games.

I like the "no random encounters" deal. That's just me though.

well though i really like the traditional RPG style and whatnot but no random encounters decresases the level of frustration so is a great addition.

I liked the political storyline and a few select characters that's about it from FFXII. Some of the characters were just plain annoying
ie: Vaan and Penelo

I thought that gambits took away from the gameplay experience. Personally, I like random encounters, it made me play the game rather then me trying to sneak around battles that I didn't want to fight.

Altogether though, FFXII wasn't bad but, in my eye it was one of the worst FF.

I love random encounters. It makes for great suspense, and it's fun to level up that way.

As for FFXII, I have it. But Haven't played it yet. I'm in lazy mode right now. :-\

what's sad is that the DS in the DS sequel of the game those character's personalities are "updated", so they are not just 2 stupid children following the leading man.

The gambit system and a few other issues (the menu based map exploration from locale to locale and even targeting and waiting while fighting definitely made the game a chore to play at times) were not liked by me.

that is just the other FF games just that you are able to move around :/ (i mean the targetin and waiting)

I found myself writing stories and reading magazines while i was waiting for them to automatically attack, I think FF needs to go into a more Action-ish oriented type instead of this ff12 type.

So turn the sorta turn-based combat into an action game? Big success.

i think it needs to keep it's turn-based way :/ and go "action-ish" at the same time which you can do in the near future by buying either of the FFXIII versions. and you know that you could turn gambits off so you could play in a more normal way?

I mean, they could add some sort of innovation, like make it proceed much faster and get rid of waiting, like Baten Kaitos Origins

Yes, I know that gambits can be turned off, but it would make sense that if one buys a game that they and turn every option on.

this is like baten kaitos origins.... there's a bar that goes down and when it does you attack :/.....

and if you don't like everything on the developer gives you the option to turn it off to make it more fun for you

No it isnt, at least in Baten Kaitos Origins you were always on your feet to attack, there was never any waiting unless you caused it by not acting (even then a timer limited it).

Im not taking offense or charging you with anything so I dont think I need to further continue discussion of what a developer includes or doesnt include.

So I'm not entirely sure based on this thread....(in fact it's made me more unsure if anything) will FF 13 have random encounters, or won't it? I'm praying it won't.
