My son and I were jammin' through SMB3, and I couldn't help but wonder what the music box is for? Anyone know?
 
I think you use it to lull enemies on the map asleep. Like you can play it and Hammer Bros. will fall asleep and you can pass by their space without having to engage them.
 
Puts the Hammer Bros to sleep on the map and then you can listen to a really cool easy listening version of the SMB theme.
