It has pieces of several other influenza strains, thats all thats interesting about it, or rather, as much as Im willing to tell. I can go into excruciating detail, but then I would have to explain too much molecular genetics.

We can study anything in class, for example, in the lab im in we use methamphetamine.

Like a bunch of nerve cells on high.

sorry... biology joke.

And Starry, I wouldn't mind if you got me a image of the cells you've been viewing. :) I'd find it quite interesting... Google isn't helping... for a change :lol

Hmmm i don't know, i think it will blow over but you never know, its reached Aus but not where i live yet lol and i don't want to get it, im already feeling like im getting a cold or something. :o :-[

1 death...and it was an infant right? IT'S THE END OF THE WORLD! Nah, it's in my state. I plan on seeing if I can somehow get this virus. I'm gonna high five everyone. It's treatable if you catch it early anyway, so that sounds like a good time.

Strubes your a sick sick man for making jokes like that and I would be joining in on the fun if this virus didn't scare the crap out of me.

So far Strubes only an infant has died but this thing is just getting started in the U.S.

It's not getting blown of proportion if theres deaths involved man.
It's like what do you think the family feels about their child is dead?

I disagree. I don't think it's just getting started. There is ONE death. It doesn't matter who it was, it was only ONE death. Over a hundred cases, but only one death. What does that tell you?

The media is blowing this out of proportion. Like everything else they report.

I agree. One death in the U.S. shouldn't issue nationwide panic. And correct me if I'm wrong, but it's treatable as long as you catch it early, correct? Only one death people.

It's getting blown out of proportion. Sure, it sucks that a child is dead, but you can't be panicking because an infant died from this.

agree with all 3.

this reminds me of a book that Michael Crichton wrote called state of fear.....it stated that the world and the media always needed to fear something, no matter what even if is a ridiculous thing like a flu that has only claimed one life... true i feel bad for the victim specially because now his name is used to spread fear around the world....

i really hate the media.

in another note.... a LOT of people have died from drugs and alcohol but nobody makes a national freak out because of that =_=U (even if they are not diseases) so seriously don't freak out about this either

One death is nothing to worry about. Sure it's death and it sucks but, that happens all the time. This isn't the first time that we've seen swine flu.

its the first time weve seen a strain like this though

We see a new strain of the flu every year. This one just happens to be more deadly (the death rate is still under 10% though). I doubt we'll be seeing a pandemic or anything though. The media does this every year or two. A disease pops up that has the potential to kill large numbers if it spreads on a very large scale, and they blow it out of proportion. Last time, it was avian flu. Before that, it was SARS. Both killed a few hundred in east asia, but neither caused a global pandemic.

cause they found some kind of vaccination for it which they are finding the protein strain or something for this flu and is getting it ready for vaccnination testing and stuff now if i am correct

Well they prepare vaccines for potentially strains a year or so in advance. I want to know how they would create one for this flu, without going through the lenghty drug processs, and get it to people fast?
