It is a turn-based action game but a good turn-based one. You start out either as a Roman gladiator (Valens, a guy) or a Barbarian gladiator (Ursula, a girl). You go to different cities (free roaming) and compete in fights, hire new gladiators, or buy/sell equipment. There are four different regions, which I forget the names (didn't really pay attention to them). One is a Roman world, one a Barbarian world, one a mongol/indian world, and the last one is a desert/arabian style world. You need to get enough wins in each world to advance to the next one (in the order I listed them unless if you're Ursula then the Barbarian world and Roman world are flip-flopped).
I liked the aspect of managing your own team and the advantages/disadvantages of the different gladiator classes. They range from a huge Samnite, to a tiny Peltast with everything else you could think of. Great Game. I actually saw it at EB Games for $7. But I already have it. I would definetely but it for 7$ if I didn't own it though.
