The Dumbest Law(S) in Canada

I was watching "Law&Order" last night and it reminded me of one of the most ridiculous laws I have ever heard.I can't speak for other countries, but in Canada there is an existing law with regards to Assault.

Although it's not something I'm proud of,but several years ago I had to go to the ER for treatment on my ankle which I hurt in class.I know the ER'S in my city are just clogged with people waiting for help with some of the stupidest reasons such as Heartburn,Excessive Gas from over indulgence of spicy foods etc.so I can see how the doctors(And nurses, they work very hard as well.)can get fed up with people wasting there time with this crap where there are people with truly serious problems, but I was some truly big pain here.I have been off pain killer abuse for about twelve years now,but even though I was in big pain, but because of past abuse the doctor would only give me some hi-dose Advil.

At the time I was very angry with him because I hadn't abused Pain Killers in so long, but looking back now,I understand where he was coming from, back then I didn't.When I was trying to explain what happened,he kept turning and talking to one of the staff about Curling, can you believe it?!! I know I wasn't exactly a high priority but c'mon.Anyway this angered me so I pounded the shelf next to me to get his attention(Keep in mind he was at the foot of the bed about 6 or 7 feet away)next thing I know the police are there and he's charging me with assault. The police told me that if he feels threatened,he can send me to court!!

I couldn't believe it!!One of the cops said to me "How did he know that you weren't going to hit next?" I replied respectfully to the officer, not like some other punk would tell them off.I said "How do you guys know that I was going to hit him next"? so why in the heck did the police give him the benefit of the doubt, throwing me in a cell for the night, and I'm not even intoxicated!

Thank God I got a judge that saw it for the crap charge it was,and threw it out. This law is stupid.I could see it if I picked up a chair and threw it at the doctor, but all I did was pound a shelf. If that's considered assault, that means if someone across the room from me sees me kick a chair or something in anger that I can say I felt threatened and take him to court?I'm sorry,I'm no lawyer, but if this is true then God help us.
God bless.

See, but what you did obviously didn't fall under that law, the policeman was just ignorant/not that bright.

So how is the law so dumb since what you did didn't apply?

What's up Chief,

What I meant was: How could they possibly know what a person is going to do next, they are not mind readers. It ticked me off because the police and the doctor were punishing me for something that they think I might do next. They can't tell what a person is thinking, they put me in the cell for the night(Just For The Record,I wasn't drunk,I gave that up a long time ago,nor was I stoned,I quit that stuff a long time ago.

Long story short,I was punished based on what they"Predicted" I was going to do.That's a low blow.
