What does everyone think about recent movies like 2012 depicting the end of the world as we know it. Beyond the ancient prophecies, and revelations of data being uncovered, what do you think is the meaning of this shift in consensus regarding possibilities about a "doomsday". In video games and media we have seen this all over for many years and it seems this is a time of reassurance for those who believe this theory is true. What can we do to protect ourselves (if anything) if this is truly the "end " of times? If it is not, then why is this thought pattern emerging again and what can we hope to gain from discussing the possibilities and new knowledge gained from this research?
I absolutely do not believe in the 2012 thing one bit, however, I am pretty sure our planet will be uninhabitable or destroyed someday. From what I understand the Sun will actually die, thus making life impossible here on earth. But hopefully by that time we will have started colonizing other planets {sure wish I could live to see that day!}.
Ive heard of this scenario also. Something like billions of years away is it not? Still there are endless scenarios. I personally do not believe in the 2012 thing either because of the date. However, I cannot see how one could rule out the possibility of cataclysmic disaster, man-made or else-wise, and then there is the question on life on other planets. Can man move on when this planet is no longer useful?
I think right now they are most optimistic about us moving to Mars, but there is still a long ways to go. Basically, Mars does not have an atmosphere, so we would have to create an artificial one. I don't believe anything will happen in 2012 but if it does it does at least we will go together.
Even though this will probably sound ironic i hope we don't inhabit other planets because if there is life on other planets we will probably just do what we did to other life on this planet use and destroy it for selfish reasons any one who says the human race isn't selfish is really kidding them selves.

I believe and respect other peoples right to believe and worship in any fashion that they see fit.(except maybe Satanism.I have a real problem with that.But again,it's their chosen belief,so I must respect that and don't preach at them and insult them because of it.)That's not my place.I try to keep my opinions to myself with this particular belief system.I'm not a "Bible Banger" telling others saying that what I believe is the only way to Heaven.

Being a Christian I believe this passage to be true.The ancient Mayan calendar stops at this given time."The Winter Solstice" occurs around this frame of time.I made a post about the number 12 about 86 years ago and how the bible milks it for all it's worth,or something to that effect.The number 12 is used in a variety of passages in the bible.I understand that some members don't put much stock in numerology and the mystic properties that surround this number,but it's important to know that this type of material and however symbolic it is,when applied to the bible,breeds a completely different kind of prophetic offspring.
In the bible Jesus speaks of horrific disasters among other prophetic happenings like we are living in and dealing with right now as a sign that his return is imminent.Some believe that the natural disasters and other horrific events we are living right now are setting the stage for these things that Jesus spoke of regarding His return to occur.Others say the stage is always set,because these natural disasters among others of a slightly different nature are constants through time.
Perhaps the the Mayan calender means the 2012 is not the end,but the beginning of the end.I encourage you to do some research on the number 12 and how it is used in the bible,because it will provide a pretty strong argument which could very well give you something to chew on until what some call the "End Of Days" truly occurs.

Actually, the 2012 thing was originally printed, rather ambiguously, by Michel Coe. Modern Mayans, according to my professor who does fieldwork in Belize working on Mayan sites, do not believe that there is an apocalypse coming in 2012.
