The Giant Lego Man

I wonder if it was a promotional thing at some point in time. Why else would the LEGO company make a giant LEGO man? :lol
 
The only thing those would possibly be made for are either advertising or actually used at places like Lego Land.

I get the feeling he was once used in a store somewhere, and for some reason, got tossed in the ocean.
