The Good 'Ol Days!

but we'll always be the Good 'ol Game Addicts :)

I think that was the biggest downfall of Ezboard. I remember when you could use HTML tags in your sig but now you have to pay for that.

No.. the downfall of ezboard was how laggy and slow it became.  When we 1st started up.. it was decent.  By the time we moved boards... lets just say on my cable modem, I couldn't get from page to page fast at all.. it was taking tooooooo long to load.  IT was  A LOT worse when we had sigs enabled too :lol

I am glad for the move though... I like this place a HECK of a lot better.

I never had a problem with the speed of Ezboard even when I was on 56k. Yep, you had to pay for that and the ability to have no ads, etc. I think that was crazy.

Their biggest drawback was all the bugs in the system, and the sercurity of it. Those were some fun times though.

I forgot about those bugs. I dont think people even use Ezboard services anymore these days. :-\

I did... even on cable.... I don't know how you didn't :lol  Most people noticed it.

You know... the EZboard days were fun... it was a good start...   but honestly, I think we are fairing better here... of course :lol
IT's crazy how many original members we still have too.

†B†V† :hat

Like 30% of the time I experienced slowness but the other 70% the board was going at a good pace for me. When I got cable it just went even faster for me. Some other boards on the Ezboard service were slow to me though for some reason..I only went to like 3 boards regularly.

Yeah I even remember my Paul Phoenix avatar, that was my very first avatar ever online. Anyways, I think I can only name a few regs from Ez that are still here today. Ccc11, Bv, Mastermario cant think of any others unless they're going by another alias.

That avatar is on this site as well :lol

man... our ezboard ring SHRANK a TON....

that many sites are gone and deleted, eh?!  wow.....  crazy how time changes.

Remember scyth and mastermario's boards?   I wonder how Draknek is.... I haven't talked with him for about 1+ years now.  That and Godess Rinoa.... she was always cool.

Actually X2, Nova, Sartori, and a few others are from Ezboard as well :)

I am surprised our board is still up there....  we had a boat load of posts we had to abandon unfortunately.  I tried to get them transferred here... but there was no way to get the converter working.  Draknek tried helping me.  We were going to go a converter that read all the ezboard posts... and transferred them to PHPbb.... since there wasn't an SMF converter.   THEN.... we were going to convert the PHPbb board to an SMF board. :lol  Crazy, eh?  We would have had over 100,000 posts to start here... AND.. we would be almost crossing into the 200,000 post territory right now :lol Topic wise.. it would AT LEAST be close to double.

I remember Scyth's board, I think I was going there for a little bit and then stopped going. I dont remember MM's board at all, but I do remember him being there. I do remember Draknek and GR! Really never talked to Draknek before but I've talked to GR and went to her board, her board was crazy! Tons of post everyday on the hour!

So you guys never got the convertor to work or you just gave up on it? I think it was possible though to convert posts from Ezboard to PhpBB, dunno about SMF.

yeah... I basically gave up :lol After about 1-2 months working on it.

GR's board was actually someone elses.. but it was basically given to her after that person left. They had a lot of posts.. but most of it was off topic. Not to crack on the posts.. because they had a lot of cool people and it was fun being there. But it was a lot of off topic posts.. even in the on topic subjects.

We are finally starting to get up into the higher post range... it took us that long to do it :lol But then again... we are getting around 2 million hits per month now.

Gr's board had one thing that really helped them along... about 4-5 people constantly working on the site. Draknek did a lot of development for their site and boards.... along with a few other people and GR. Here... I do all the development and a few members here do help out with content in the like. But we've always had trouble getting more members to help out. Even the review contests that I held... ended up being very lack luster.... EVEN for a free friggin game. But hey... every board is different and we have really cool people here :) We've got a few killer helpers around! Especially for the Game Addicts section. We need to get about 20 people helping out constantly... and people willing to do contests and all.

You need people to work around the clock eh? What do you have in mind though? I mean I know the reviews and etc, I can do that on a couple of games that I own not new but old.

:lol I am already working on this site around the clock :lol ... it's a lot of work.

ok... but yeah.... it would be cool to have people that knew how to do websites and code... to help bring this site along faster.... that's more of what I am talking about. I mean, all content is a BIG BIG BIG help as well... we have a few real big helpers around here :) If we had about 1-2 other people that knew how to code sites... help with implementing sections, editing php code, and helping other parts of the sites like that.... we'd be able to roll along faster. Part of the reason this site is taking longer to progress is that I have to do it all on my own (coding wise) and that's not so bad, but the store is going to have to come first... and I Am going to be doing a bunch of new updates with the game addicts stuff.... as you know :)

Reviews, codes... and all that stuff helps as well. If you want to be on a development team... just let me know :)

You know... it was fun in the Ezboard days... less work :lol but oh well... we've gained a lot more through the hard work.

hey BV, how far in depth does the php code go? I'm not thaf far into it but I'm at a point where I can really pick up new languages without much effort at all. If I could see the stuff you need help with I might be able to learn enough to help out some.

It's not very indepth.

Most of it is learning how the programs (IE SMF, and the other programs we are integrating) work. It is equally important to figuring out how to work around the CSS, adding new tags and ids...  Then working to get our templates done.  Other things that can start being done by mods are the resizing and uploading of avatars..etc.

But it would be cool if we could get 1-2 people to help with layouts... reworking some of the pages... getting them to display right in different web browsers..etc. That and testing / implementing... and about anything else you can think of that goes with a webmasters duty.

As you can see.... working with all this together can be pretty time consuming while trying to run the business... and that flowing to support our entire site.  I honestly need to get some more of my shift to the business until School is out and I have more free time.

If any of that makes sense :lol

I could probalby help out some with that then. Figuring out the CSS tags and adding them shouldn't be that bad. It would probably take me a bit to get up to speed with the PHP though, but once I get some more time it shouldn't be too bad to figure out.. specifically later this Sunday.
