The new PS2 model has snuck into America this week

Haha nevar!!! To me, it's not a horrible decision, as I've never played a PS1 game on the PS2..and haven't known anyone till just recently who has. :p

well now you know that there's a lot of people that do.... i'm jsut happy my sister got the 60GB model so we don't have to worry about stuff like this

Yep! Good deal for that! I got my 80 GB and there's only one PS2 game I've had that doesn't work on it so I'm satisfied. :)

Hi everyone, I just want to say. I made a horrible mistake and mislead everyone. I just discovered that it wasn't the PS2's fault. It was due to my new HDTV that caused this problem. Apparently it does not like the original Component Sony brand cables. So I tried an S-Video cable and sure enough, it works flawlessly.

Um, wow, I feel like a complete moron right now and deeply apologize for posting false news. I really should have checked my own resources before even approaching with this news.

I'm not batting a thousand this week, that's for sure. Again, I am really sorry :(

So to rephrase this, there is nothing wrong with the new PS2 models, it's just that certain HDTV's do not like types of signals.

Seeee? I told you all it wasn't that big of a problem! :lol

All kidding aside, it's all good Mega. Good thing you found out what the problem was though! Or there'd be alot of misinformed people on this forum.

You know, I was kind of suspicious as to why you were getting sound, but no picture. I guess that explains it! All I can say is "whew"... Now it's time for a group hug :lol

@ Strubes, I guess we'll just have to agree to disagree. I'm still not happy with the fact that it's not backwards compatible. If my PS2 broke down I wouldn't have much choice other than to find another used PS2 that is bc, since I do have quite a large library of PSone games.

Oh, I thought he was referring to this quote when he said that.

Okay, word of advice to everyone. STAY THE FREAK AWAY FROM THIS MODEL.

It couldn't even play "Fatal Fury Battle Archives Vol. 1". An actual PS2 game....seriously...how does this happen?? A PS2, brand new, not able to play a PS2 game??

Did the cable thing solve the problem with that game as well?

Well then it's a good thing it's backwards compatible. :)

Yes, the S-Video cable solved the problem. It just stinks, since I was accustomed to using an HD Cable whenever playing a PS2 system.

This is EXACTLY why I keep an old PS2 fat. It plays ALL PS2 GAMES, ALL PS1 GAMES and is the sturdiest of the 3. I also dont like the slim PS2s cause they break waay too easily and the lazer gets scratched so easily...SCREW THAT! >:( I mean, c'mon! A PS2 that cant play PS1 games and even cant play a PS2 game?

Sad Sony, sad...

It's possible it's not the HDTV. Here at work, even some of the older slim PS2 models would not accept certain Sony branded Component Cables. It's possible these new slim PS2's don't accept yours. Try a newer set of Component Cables if you can.

A playstation 2 that cannot play Symphony of the Night, Silent Hill, Bloody Roar, Wild 9, Tekken 3, and Soul Blade is barely a playstation at all!!

Granted, I have a Playstation in my bedroom and a PS2 in my living room, but still, I like being able to play games on either system at will!

Backwards compatability one of the many reasons that made the PS2 (and the GBA for that matter) such an amazing system!
