I bought RE4 last night at 7:00pm. It is now 7:39am...and I just now turned my GC off. wow!
This is the game I have been waiting for, after playing it 11 hours straight, with no breaks either mind you...I'm still on disc one. This game has got such a killer atmosphere and vibe to it. The first quarter of the game feels just like an H.P. Lovecraft novel, straight outta Dagon or Innsmouth Inn. This is one creepy demented game.
First impressions...OK check it out. This game is not really as scary as other RE titles..I mean not too many "jump scares" like the old dogs crashing through the window bit. But its got such a creepy vibe going that you kinda get this feeling of anxiousness and dread the whole time..just constantly running, and hiding for your life at some points..always wondering whats around the next corner..then as a flash of lighting hits the sky ..illuminating the pitch black darkness...you see it..right in your face..and ..its a ...you'll just have to play to find out lol!
Now..as the game progresses it becomes much more of a straight action game than survival horror to be honest...you end up doing some very non-RE things in this one. Puzzles are pretty much the same as previous titles, except quite a few now involve using your guns to solve the puzzles.
No ink ribbons, no annoying boxes to stow away your items, and best of all you get a traveling salesman that just randomly pops up from time to time selling you new weapons, or upgrading the ones you have. Theres also plenty of hidden treasure in the game to find and sale to the merchant.
The boss fights are VERY inventive and original, and boy theres sure alot of them too. If you played MGS3 and thought it had some interesting boss fights..well I promise these are sooo much cooler. There are also interactive cut scenes now..much like Shenmue had in in its cut scenes. Lets see here..what else..tons of enemies...sometimes dozens on screen at once!
I figure I'm not even half way through at 11 hours in..since I'm still on disc one..and if this is an accurate assessment then the game seems to be a decent size adventure. 11 hours in, and I've fought some of the craziest creatures you could imagine.
One more thing...11 hours in..and not one zombie to be seen...so it seems as though they are completely out of the picture. But I have witnessed an appearence of another old RE character already!
Well enough of me rambling..I'm still on my sugar high and RE4 high, so anyways if you do not have this game, do whatever it takes to buy it, its darn well worth it.
