Thread resurrection time!

So, thoughts on the E3 trailer? Gameplay looks tight, now the big unknown is how good the story/dialogue/humor will be, which is really the half the game. I wish they'd shown some character interactions in the demo. Real time/VATS options are nice, 1st/3rd person perspectives just like Oblivion, no shocker there. I'm really hoping they didn't use the same, few "Elder Scrolls Players" voice actors to death like they did in the last two ES games, but won't be surprised if they did.

Still, we're halfway to gold, looks like, and I'm more hopeful than ever that the naysayers will end up having to eat it.

Re: Fallout 3 Hands-On Impressions

I just hope that the enemies don't level up like they did in Oblivion. I don't want to keep facing Rats that can still own you if you aren't careful again.

Re: Fallout 3 Hands-On Impressions

Cheaply done or cheap that they included it? Tons of people, self included, woulda been pissed if they left out a VATS* strategy option. Wouldn't really feel like Fallout without it, it'd be just another shooter.

The precision aiming was a little cheap, but other than that, it seemed fun.

I don't think it was mentioned here or not but, as Cherry stated they put it so that everything was a one hit shot in VATs. Any and every developer showing off a game uses cheats when they show off their game. They did it in the EA Press Conference for Mirror's Edge with god mode which they show you in the lower left corner of the video if you paid attention.

Re: Fallout 3 Hands-On Impressions

Just the fact that it's included so you can get an easy head shot to start of a battle was just the only part that let me down.

Well the VATS does stand for Vault-Tec Assisted Targeting System. Also the VATS does not mean an automatic hit. If you noticed each body part has a hit %. Also VATS is not mandatory.

yes but it's optional so you don't have to use VATS if you don't want to.... you should check the hands-on the game for more info, i know i'm using VATS because i want to play an RPG not a shooter XD, so since they let me do whatever i want i will overuse VATS

Re: Fallout 3 Hands-On Impressions

The best part is it's not mandatory. I'm gonna try the stealth way first. That sounds like fun.

Easy? With VATS, it's not based on you, it's based on the distance between you and your opponent, and how good you are with the firearm, if it's anything like the past 2 Fallouts.

Did you see the percentages when he used VATS and the nuke launcher? It was 3% for most of the guys, and 1% for the head. He only hit them because he had some sort of auto-hit / aimbot going on.

Trust someone who played the first Fallout when I say that if you aren't close to your enemy, your chances of hitting them aren't too good. As you level up, you'll get more accurate, but at first, you are probably more likely to get a headshot aiming normally than you are through VATS. In fact, in the video, when they first used VATS with the sniper, the player only had about a 20% chance of hitting. I'm sure Bethesda used a character that had been leveled up too, so you can imagine what kind of percentage a new character would have.

That was somewhat skewed because both of his arms were injured at the time, but I agree.

Re: Fallout 3 Hands-On Impressions

I'm sorry that I just don't like one of the aspects of the game, but I just don't like it. Actually kinda makes it worse to me that the percentage plays into it too just cause you have to watch that slow mo stuff every time. Though it's optional so I'm happy.

Re: Fallout 3 Hands-On Impressions

it's not whether you like it or not, is that you misunderstood and thought that it was easy to get a headshot with VATS....well it isn't easy.

Re: Fallout 3 Hands-On Impressions

Yes, but as I said in my last post, now that I understand it, I'm kinda a lil more disappointed with it...but that's just me.

Fallout 3 Unbanned in Australia

http://kotaku.com/5032469/rumor-fallout-3-unbanned-in-oz

After initially being banned for drug use, Fallout 3 has apparently been unbanned in Australia. This information comes from game retailers who are now taking preorders for Fallout 3, not Bethesda, or the Australian government, however, so the unbanning isn't official just yet. It is, however, looking like Australians will be able to enjoy this year's goty, minus some content. :D

Re: Fallout 3 Unbanned in Australia

well this is good news for people in Australia and a blow to unfair censorship
