Anyone who goes to the GC forums know's this already, but here's the scoop.

My GC crapped out on me the other day and left me with a giant stack of unplayable games. I'm planning on trading these in to get a new system, my only problem is I can't decide which one to get.

I'm not sure if I should just trade in all my GC games that I don't play, replace my GC, and that way I'd be able to play the new Zelda which I've been waiting for for about 5 years now.

I also kind of want to trade in all of my GC games, get an Xbox, and buy the new Conker game which I have also been yearning to play for about 5 years now.

If I traded in most of my games I could get a GC for almost no extra cost at all. If I trade in all my games I would probably have to shell out a little more cash for an Xbox (especially considering I'd have no games for that system at all).

I don't want this to turn into an "Xbox vs. GC" debate, or a "Zelda vs. Conker" one, because I really don't care which you guys think is better. What I would like to know is what you guys would do in this situation, whether it was your GC, Xbox, or PS2 that died on you.

Would you replace the system that crapped out on you for no cost, even though it would mean a much smaller library of games than you originally had? Or, would trade in all your owned games, get a new system, spend a little more money, and thus get the chance to play all the games you missed out on?

Well -I- would replace the GC, because not only would it cost nothing, but there's still so many games I enjoy playing and want to play in the future for GC.

You on the other hand should go for an Xbox, seeing as you never seem happy with your GC. :p Then again there's the new Zelda...so it's pretty tough.

Well what I would do is replace the system. Since the new xbox is coming out soon maybe I would try to get that for Christmas or something. Since its backwards compatible I would much rather have the new one that plays both old and new xbox games. GC's are generally cheaper anyways so it might be easier on your pocket. That way you can have both. And when you say all, do you mean all your GC games or all of your games combined including PS2? All in all thats what I would do.

yeah... I'd replace the GC...

Maybe you won't be.... but my gut feeling about the new conker is "disappointment."  I don't have any faith in Rare right now.
I started losing faith when they kept delaying Kameo for the Gamecube (along with some other games).

BV :hat

Rare still makes quality games, just not as many. You lost faith because they make great games and sold out to the highest bidder, which works for me.

Thanks for the posts everyone, this is a really tough decision so all input is welcome. :D

And when you say all, do you mean all your GC games or all of your games combined including PS2?

All of my GC games. To date I don't own any other system this generation.

Getting it for Christmas is an impossibility. My parents have never, ever, supported my interest in videogames, nor could they afford to even if they wanted. On a curious sidenote, is the Xbox 360 backwards compatible? I heard that was yet to be announced...

:lol You're so predictable BV. Like I said (and I added this in mostly for your benefit BV) I don't really care about what your guys' opinions about the individual systems/games are (mostly because I don't agree with a lot of you :lol). I just want to know whether you'd want to replace the system you had, or replace it with another system you also wanted to buy.

Wow I thought you owned the PS2 and the Xbox. Hmm, as far as the backwards compatiblity, I thought it was confirmed, but Ill check on that. Then it depends on what game you really, really want then. GC's are cheaper, but if you really want the xbox then you shouldnt settle for anything less.

I'm not sure how this is so hard? Try something new, you've had a cube for a while, and you've probably already played the majority of it's best games. Why buy it again for one new Zelda game? I mean, give it another year and buy one for like $50. I just don't see how you could pass up Halo, Halo 2, Crimson Skies, etc, etc. You can play these games over and over, but really, how many times can play Zelda? Sure it's super sweet the first time through, but a game like Halo, the action never gets old. I love the cube, it's cool, but for the situation at hand I truly think this is a no-brainer :)

Well, the next gen consoles are still a ways off. I'd try a new system personally, since all three available systems have strengths that make them worth a try.

Great, it's practically dead even, you guys are being a big help :lol.

Seriously though, keep posting up, I've heard a lot of good arguements both ways but I'm still undecided.

In response to X2's post:

You're right, for the most part. A lot of what you said I've said to myself. However, to this day I still play OOT, so I do think the new Zelda could last just as long as any Xbox game. As well, Zelda was the biggest reason I bought the cube in the first place, and not playing it would just be like adding insult to injury. Its irrational, I know, but that's why I'm having such a hard time deciding.

In respone to the next gen console stuff:

I did consider that initially, but due to my financial situation and various other factors in my life, it will be years before I can afford to buy/have time to enjoy, a next gen console. So its not really a realistic option. Plus, by the time the new systems are out, I doubt my GC games will be worth much.

Basically I want something to fulfill my occasional habit of gaming for the short term future (short term being the next year or two). The Xbox would be good because I would be able to rent games from an almost entirely new library, but replacing my GC would be the affordable solution that would pretty much set things back to normal. However, its hard to justify selling half my game library just to continue playing the half I don't sell, lol.

I still have my gamecube around with SSBM and a couple other games, just sell off the games that you dont care much about, and keep it in case you want to play some good GC games every once in a while.

At GameStop we take back systems even if they don't work and you still get store credit; it's just a lot less credit than if the system worked. Maybe some game store where you are would be willing to do that, and then you'd have to trade in less games to have enough to get another Gamecube.

Honestly though I think you should try something different and get an XBOX. You'd miss out on Zelda but you'd get to play Halo, Halo 2, and Conker, and Half-Life 2 later this year if you missed it on the computer.
