This has probably been done before but I'm new.

What would you rate to be the best series in video game history. Or, what is your favorite. Also, what are others you feel should be noted. Just please support your response with more than, "because it was fun, awesome, sweet, ect. . . ".

My personal favorite is metal gear. I feel its presentation was revolutionary and gameplay was intense, real (as far as video games go), and overall entertaining. And lets not forget the story. To me the story in the entire metal gear series is one of the best I have ever heard. It is so gripping you can't help but to let yourself become immersed in this epic tale. I don't want to talk about the story in fear of ruining it for someone who is currently playing through one of the games, namely Metal Gear Solid 4.

Final Fantasy also rates high on my list, along with Golden Sun for the gameboy, and Madden.

in no particular order

1.Tales of series
2. final fantasy series
3. platforming mario series
4. zelda series
5. phoenix wright series
6. metroid series.
7. super smash bros series
8. sonic series

1. Zelda Series {Best series of all time. For me, the Zelda series basically epitomizes what gaming is, and should be, all about. IMO}
2. SMB series
3. Resident Evil series
4. Silent Hill series
5. MGS series
6. Elder Scrolls series
7. FF series

this was posted a while back, and I'm pretty sure I said

1. Half-Life series (includes CS and junk)
2. Mario (only platformers, and RPG's)
3. Civilization

oh i forgot about mario RPGs, the paper series is jsut awesome,

Pokemon Gold
Pokemon Blue
Pokemon Diamond
Tales of Eternia
Sonic the Hedgehog 2

all of which are games Ive played, honorable mention to Baten Kaitos, and Disgaea: Afternoon of Darkness

Modifcation 1: Also, I agree with Jack on the Golden Sun part

yeah the golden sun series caused me to fail math class once :lol. so i do love it. (first and last time i failed a class XD)

I would have to agree with most people and say Zelda. Ocarina of Time was the first game that ever made me feel I was inhabiting a living, breathing world. Even going back to it now, I still get a sense of that awe and wonder that few games before or since have given me. While the other games in the series have fallen short of this mark, they've all been decent games in their own right, and I will continue to play future installments in the franchise, however begrudgingly.

But to contribute something that hasn't already been stated, I would say the Advance Wars series is a notable mention. I detest nearly every game that is in any way turn based, but Advance Wars as a series has always made sense to me in that gameplay style. I have enjoyed its strategy mechanics so much so that I can honestly say I own more Advance Wars games than all my other handheld games combined (which is to say, not many). I bought a GBA SP and a DS Lite for these games alone, and I do not feel ripped off or cheated for doing so.

HOLY WACAMOLE XD.

Advance wars series
Fire Emblem series

how could i forget of these 2??? if they are practically the reason i bought a GBA XD (and well i bought the DS for other reasons but days of ruin is also awesome)

I am going to say Zelda also. The worlds feel so magical, and special, and real in their own sort of way. The characters are loveable, that games are interesting and compelling, they feel classic and special...part memory and part new and fun.

I can't think of anything else that feels the way Zelda feels.

Other then Zelda, I would say I enjoy a lot of Mario games, and they are usually really cool, but they don't feel special in the same sort of way as Zelda does tho.

For Zelda Series, I will only state two titles that were bearable

Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker
Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Seasons and Ages (my fav)

My favorite series in videogame-dom is the "Tales of" series made by Namco Bandai. Tales of Symphonia, Tales of Legendia, Tales of the Abyss, Tales of Phantasia, Tales of Eternia, Tales of Destiny--to name the ones I've played and enjoyed. :) I'm also really excited for Tales of Vesperia and Tales of Symphonia: Dawn of a New World, which are coming out later this year. And after I take a few courses of Japanese, I hope I'll be able to understand enough to get myself a few of the games that never made it over here to the US, such as Tales of Rebirth, Tales of Destiny Director's Cut, Tales of the Tempest, and Tales of Innocence.

I love the Tales series for many reasons. The battle system is real-time and it's always fun, and it usually gets improvements with each game in the series. There's always a variety of cool characters. The storylines usually start out a little predictable and then turn into something amazing. The music is always awesome. The cutscenes are anime style and always great to watch. And even with the voice-acting, they usually get a really good English cast. ^_^

Other series' I love:
Legend of Zelda
Golden Sun
Fire Emblem
Final Fantasy
Metroid
Castlevania
Halo

I think I'll make a list because I am bored and whatnot.

Spoiler for length.
1. Metal Gear
2. Final Fantasy
3. Quake
4. Command and Conquer
5. Street Fighter
6. Tekken
7. Soul Calibur
8. Super Smash Bros.
9. Battlefield
10. .hack (thanks Joy I forgot about this one)
11. Half Life
12. Guilty Gear
13. Ninja Gaiden
14. Super Mario (2D platformers)
