I overheard my mom talking on the phone with my grandmother saying that my dad was giving a settlement of $500,000! That's alot of money! My dad declined it of course though and said that he could make that in 5 years. So I was like "Your making $100,000 a year?! I've never known that! How could I've been so clueless?!" I was really shocked at the fact that my dad makes that much money and you'll never believe what type of job he does, well he cant do it anymore since he got in an accident a couple of months back this year.

What you guys think about that? I mean the whole fact that he makes all that money and me not knowing it until now. Im really shocked at this, as much as he complains that he's always broke! Grr..>:(

Edit: I could've of been had a car! OMG!

Well first find out what he is spending it on. If he's spending it on unnecessary stuff then I can see why you're upset. Plus he earns the money, he doesnt have to buy you a car. Maybe he wants you to earn the money. I dont know. Just think about it first.
 
Well, what you make and what you take home after Uncle Sam cuts his slice of your pie are two different things. Also, if your dad would have walked around bragging about how much he made, then people would never stop calling him for hand-outs. Case in point. I made the stupid comment to my brother one day about how much I make a year. Two days later my older sister calls me wanting money for "bills." And she's the family member that everyone has. the one that doesn't work and "borrows" money at every family gathering without intending to pay it back. So your dad is very smart. So do your dad a favor and treat it like privelaged information or you'll have family coming out of the woodwork hounding your dad.
 
He's not speding it on anything, what I meant was that he tells people that he doesn't have money which I know and everyone in the family knows! I didn't mean that he literarry that he's broke. lol

Your right he doesn't have to buy me a car, but he did mention that he might trade in the truck that Im driving now (the blue one) and get me a car of my choice as long as its not a sports car, cant get that 'till Im 25 years old.

Well I guess it is smart of him for not telling anyone how much he makes, but still you can tell from some of the stuff he buys and he buys gas like its nothing. Meh..I just didn't know that you can make that kind of money by hauling gas, that's what he does for a living and he doesn't want me doing it for some apparent reason.

But $100,000/yr is just mind blowing right?

Sounds like he knows something you shouldnt know. For me mind blowing is making $500,000 a year. If I ever become a great animator thats how much I want to pull in.
 
There are jobs that nobody is interested in, and those people who are willing to do it get the big bucks. Or it could be that few people want to go through the training to get a class C hazmat license.

I don't know what my dad makes... and personally I think its not my business.

No, I was just shocked at the fact that he makes that much money. How could you make that much money from driving truck though?
 
My dad used to drive truck for a long time, and he was always pretty well off. If you take all the jobs no one else does then you can make some serious coin. It's a fairly important job, considering everything that's in your house was probably in a semi trailer at somepoint. It pays pretty well too if you work year round, and like I said, on tougher jobs.

That's still a lot though, :lol.
 
He used to do those cross countries runs awile back, going to Colorado, Chicago, etc. He wouldn't be home for weeks!
 
Some garbage collecters in my town get paid between $60 and $80 grand a year. And yes, some truck drivers get paid a lot. But the coolest job I'd like to have is a repo man. Some get paid a lot, but it's a high stress job considering sometimes you get shot at.

LOL @ repoman, so you'd like to take people's things away? Hmm..getting shot at isn't in the job descripton.
