I actually get a lot of good use out of Spartans memory unit (since he never used it ). All I keep on it is a gamer profile so I can take it to friends' places and not have to mess with recovering it every time.

That's what I do now with my USB drive. I don't keep my profile on my hard drive anymore. Now I just take it to my friends house and earn achievements for party games and stuff I don't own.

Memory unit is not a big deal. I never owned one for my original Xbox, can't see why I'd want one for 360. And failure rate doesn't worry me one bit. I think MS has learned it's lesson by now and they know the technology.
Yeah. I mean, you never know for sure, but usually by this point in a system's lifespan, most of the hardware issues have been ironed out. Personally, I really like the redesign. If my 360 ever breaks down again, I'll probably just buy one of these instead of paying to get it fixed.
