Re: The Price of a 3DS game in Japan is nearly $70 O.o

"That would be about $70 US for 3DS games compared to $58 US for DS games." So in other words games are gonna be around $40, which is about what I expected. Let's face it, gaming ain't a cheap hobby anymore. With ridiculous console prices it's only a matter of time before our handhelds follow suit. Don't like it? Take up a different hobby or get a second job. *shrugs*

Re: The Price of a 3DS game in Japan is nearly $70 O.o

Again I see more motivation for retro gaming. :lol Looks like my retro gaming passion is a very good thing. :D Just purchased two used NES games for only a few dollars apiece.

3DS Box Art & Launch Titles in Japan

It's not just games and the 3DS itself on display in Tokyo today; Nintendo is also showing off the box the new handheld will ship in, along with mock-ups of what 3DS game boxes will look like.

As you can see above, Nintendo has stuck with the "classy" theme it's been running with for the DS and Wii, the 3DS' box making the handheld look like a car sitting in the dark on a showroom floor.

The game boxes, on the other hand, are a bit disappointing, the "white stripe" running down the side being almost identical (sans the gentle curve) to those for the DS, except the branding is now on the right of the box instead of the left.

Nintendogs & Cats ¥4,800

Winning Eleven Soccer 3D ¥5,800

Super Street Fighter IV 3D Edition ¥4,800

Samurai Warriors: Chronicle ¥6,090

Puzzle Bobble 3D ¥4,980

Ridge Racer 3D ¥6,090

Battle of the Giants: Dinosaurs 3D ¥5,040

Professor Layton and the Mask of Miracle ¥5,980

Re: The Price of a 3DS game in Japan is nearly $70 O.o

Now would be the time to stock up on cheap DS games. I'm sure there's going to be plenty of people trading in their handhelds and games to get this.

3DS urges you to make it portable. Earn coins to unlock content in games.

Literally, PORTABLE. As in, walk down the street while you play. It actually has an activity counter that let's you earn coins which you can use to unlock content in games. Sort of like a PokeWalker.

i'll certainly get a lot of coins, I travel a lot with my portables

3DS has REGION lock. Sorry kiddies!

Unlike the GameBoy, GameBoy Advance, and DS before it, Nintendo's next handheld may not play nice with games outside of its designated region. A report on Korean gaming site RuliWeb details an alleged interaction between Nintendo customer support in Japan and an individual inquiring about 3DS region locking. The supposed Nintendo Japan support officer specifically spells out, "There are no region codes in DS and DS Lite, but DSi, DSi [XL], and 3DS have region codes. The region codes are installed in each game and the 3DS itself ... you can't play if the region codes are different."

As Tiny Cartridge points out, the DSi and DSi XL both include a form of region locking in that DSi systems can only access their own region's DSi Shop, and DSi-enhanced releases (read: games that use the camera, among other things) are locked to the region in which they're released. The 3DS's region locking sounds like it works the same way: the alleged Nintendo rep spells out, "For example, if you play a Korean 3DS game with a Japanese 3DS system (or vice versa), you won't be able to play at all." Nintendo had yet to respond to request for comment as of publishing.

Re: 3DS has REGION lock. Sorry kiddies!

That's a bummer. But the hardcore people will just import Japanese 3DS' to play their import Japanese games.

Re: 3DS has REGION lock. Sorry kiddies!

Doh >_> now I gotta wait until someone figures out how to break the lock like they did with the wii and DSi

Re: 3DS has REGION lock. Sorry kiddies!

That sucks :-(

It doesn't seem to be getting any better for the 3DS. Short battery life; Potential Headaches; and now a region lock out.

3DS is compatible with the DSi and DSi XL ac adapters.

And a nice comparison of a 3DS Cart Vs. a DS Cart.

3DS Date (NA & Euro) confirmed and price? $249.99!

The Nintendo 3DS will hit stores in North America on March 27, at a price point of $249.99, as revealed today in New York City. It's available in Aqua Blue and Cosmo Black.

Europe's Nintendo 3DS will hit stores March 25th. The handheld will run £229.99 in the UK according to retailers HMV and Game. Amazon France and GameStop have listed a European price of €249.99.

The 3DS was first revealed in a cryptic press release in March 2010, shortly before the North American release of the DSi XL. In addition to increased processing power and screen resolution, the system promises adjustable 3D visuals without requiring 3D glasses. It also includes built-in augmented reality games, some using bundled "AR cards." An "Activity Log" tracks your gameplay as well as your steps, graphing each and dispensing "Game Coins" that can be spent in games. You can make Miis either in a menu interface or automatically from pictures. Other features include a 3DS version of the DSi's sound app, a web browser, and 3D video capability.

Marquee Nintendo games on the horizon include an updated remake of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, along with new Pilotwings, Star Fox, Nintendogs, and Kid Icarus titles, and the original submarine game Steel Diver. From third parties, Super Street Fighter IV 3D Edition is possibly the biggest, with Dead or Alive, two Resident Evils, and Metal Gear Solid 3 games also in the wings.

3DS Friend's Code will be ONE. Yes just one.

The days of game-specific Friend Codes are behind us! ... At least, they are on the 3DS. At today's 3DS launch reveal, Reggie Fils-Amie announced that the system will use only one friend code across all games. Plus, if someone's on the same WiFi network as you, you don't have to enter their codes! It's a Christmas miracle! (Just, you know, 26 days late.)

Re: 3DS Date (NA & Euro) confirmed and price? $249.99!

I sort of guessed it on the price... it isn't unreasonable I guess; already preordered a blue one on Amazon. I figure even if it gives me headaches or whatever, it should be easy to sell-- even at that price I'm thinking they will be next to impossible to find on shelves.

Yup, forgot to mention you can pre-order it right now on Amazon.com

Yes, any download from the DSiWare Store can transfer to the 3DS.

If you already own a DSi or DSiXL. Purchased any download, it will transfer to the 3DS! So don't sell that DSi or DSi XL until you transfer!

Re: 3DS Date (NA & Euro) confirmed and price? $249.99!

Not too unreasonable I guess, too expensive for me though. Probably wait for 3DSiXL if I do end up getting one though.

You can shut off the 3D effect, so you can at least enjoy the games. But yeah, I think it's still going to sell well.

Re: 3DS Date (NA & Euro) confirmed and price? $249.99!

I'm probably going to be buying mine and keeping it until as long as it lasts... pretty much like my extremely old almost beaten up to death phat DS
