Re: Now for the burning question, how much may the 3DS games cost?

True, and I'd much rather have a cart over a disc aaaaanyday.

Doctor worries that 3DS will make children cross-eyed.

Doctor Worries That 3DS Will Turn Children Cross-Eyed To achieve the effect of 3D, the Nintendo 3DS fools the brain into combining two images into a single one, thereby creating the appearance of 3D. One Japanese eye doctor is worried about this.

Granted, other eye doctors previously stated that 3D is safe — some even said it was "beneficial" for children. However, Nintendo is being safe and recommending that children under the age of six do not use the handheld's 3D features.

The reason for this is that young children's eyes are still developing. Nintendo is not alone in issuing such a warning as other electronics companies are doing the same.

Nara-based optometrist Takuya Matsumoto blogged about the 3DS's warning, adding that there are acute cases that have developed due to 3D.

Dr. Matsumoto points out that 3D strains the eyes because both eyes are not focusing on a single point. They are focusing on different points.

There's a case of a 4-year-old boy with somewhat far-sightedness who after watching a 3D movie became crossed-eyed, blogs Dr. Matsumoto. This condition resulted in surgery.

"I think this is a rare case," Dr. Matsumoto continued, "but it might be safer not to show children under six any 3D images, just like the company's warning." The doctor adds that children under six years old can still enjoy the Nintendo 3DS's 2D functions, something that Nintendo previously pointed out, too.

Re: Nintendo has bragging details about the 3DS three-layer design!

I hate 3 bean casserole, and the 3DS won't do any justice by just porting games and making them 3D.

Re: Nintendo has bragging details about the 3DS three-layer design!

I'll care about cosmetic design once they release the system with a color scheme that doesn't hurt my eyes.

Re: Nintendo has bragging details about the 3DS three-layer design!

Well i don't particularly care about the reasoning behind this 3 layer color scheme... though the color of the 3DS is indeed pretty nice.

Re: Unboxing of the 3DS. Straight from JAPAN.

pretty sweet! i never was a fan of the DS because of the fact that you had to use that stupid pen. i never even bought the DS! i tried out my friends with the game animal crossing city folk and hated it! touch screen didnt help.

Re: 3DS will launch with 18 games in North America for $40 each!

i find it interesting that they are talking about games before its even available in the USA! i mean, if it was really close to coming out, then i would understand that. but i mean this far in advance is just silly

3DS visuals

So, at the local Best Buy, I got my first real look at a 3DS.

At first, I was totally unimpressed. It is a DS Lite with an analog stick.

Then I realized the 3D effect slider was all the way down...

I turned the 3D effect slider all the way up, went dizzy and cross-eyed for a second, then got closer to the screen. Dispite the slight feeling of nausea for a few seconds, I can really say the depth of the thing is amazing. The 3D effect is, well, it convinced my eyes of depth greater than what I would expect from a standard screen.

I only got a few minutes of staring at the Pilotwings 3DS demo before continuing to the music section, but the short amount of time definitely convinced me that the hype is well founded.

:lol What a noob! Everyone knows there's a slider. :P

But seriously, they did a good job with the effect. It loses something if you ever have to stop paying attention but it works as advertised.

Re: 3DS visuals

I've had a few bad reports about their experience from Spartan and a friend of mine from California. I mean at least they have signs with warnings on them before people play it. Right?

Re: 3DS visuals

Bad reports as in what? Eye strain? Technology not being impressive?

It does hurt your eyes if you look at it for long periods of time, and yes, Nintendo does give you plenty of warnings. Nintendo doesn't take chances with health risks anymore.
