Video game addiction real? All I know is you people made me homeless.

lol it's just a site name. We're not actually addicted.

Now, if you'll excuse me...I need to play Rock Band 2...or I'll go into withdrawals.

I had a panic attack in the time it took my to post this because i had to stop playing Rainbow Six!

Anyways, I'm not sure if addiction to video games is real. I like playing them, I've had intense urges to play games before, but at the same time I know I could live without them and not miss them. But, I don't play MMO's, which are usually associated with addiction. Some others here will be able to weigh in better.

Welcome to the site! I hope you'll stick around.

Anyway....I believe people can be addicted video games. I live on a college campus, and i know TONS of people that sit on their laptop all day playing different games (mostly Wow), skipping classes and what not, and stopping very rarely. Its crazy.

I can kind of almost understand where they're coming from, because occasionally I get really antzy if I'm working on beating a game and have to stop for class or whatever. I'll think about it a lot and move or cancel some plans to get some extra time in to finish it up (but this doesn't work for MMO's since they don't really ever end). I'm definitely no addict, though. It's not hard for me to stop playing for weeks or months at a time.

As for you....I dunno, man. It sounds to me like gaming really kinda messed up your life....if its become that much of a problem, I would seriously work on ditching that habit/addiction.

Also, your logic behind "supposedly an addict can never be just casual" is definitely flawed. I don't know if you meant video game addicts specifically, or any addict, but either way, its not true. It's not like you would know a pornography addict or maybe a cigarrette addict if you saw one.

Well, I hope I could help a little. If you are looking for something to do to get your mind off video games, come post some more. :lol

With anything, self-moderation is important.

Anything fun, or enjoyable, is potentially addictive. Video games are no exception. They do tend to attract obsessive/compulsive types, but there isn't anything inherit about video games that turns people into addicts.

If your video game playing is affecting other parts of your life, then yeah, you're addicted, and its a problem. But being able to set priorities and, god forbid, sacrifice video games to deal with other aspects of life (work, social life, etc.) is something that everyone needs to do, no matter what their hobby is. Its just about balance, setting limits for yourself, and making sure that you're playing video games for the right reasons (you have free time and you want to have fun).

I also second what Mastermario said. Playing too many video games? Then come here and talk about some! :lol

So basically OP had nothing better to do then troll this forum? Great way to spend an afternoon ;D

Well, he actually had a nice long story about how video game addiction messed up his life....I don't know what happened to it.

I read the story and I'm pretty sure it was just made up. The whole thing smelled fishy from the get go.

No! Come back and troll some more...please?! We don't get to see stupidity that much anymore.. :(

i am actually glad we don't get to see that anymore xD

Oh common. Stop blaming the games for addiction. If playing the game is a crime, so what do you call those who are addicted to eating? gambling? drugs?

I'm addicted to eating. Sometimes, if I go even a few hours without eating, I start to have these like, cravings, and they don't stop until I eat something. Also, at night, I'll go completely unconciouse for 6, 7, even 8 hours at a time.

I should probably see a doctor sometime soon. :lol
