Video Game Review Scores

He is daying they should have reviewers with different tastes in games.

Like, an FPS gamer and and RPG gamer. If they both agree a game is good, then it is a good game (in theory).

But reviews don't really do crap to most people, since opinions are opinions and everyone's are different.

Because many people want to be told what to think. Opinions aren't just opinions, they are (as long as they're legitimate and well-founded) someone else's time, money (if it's a private owner), and effort put into telling you what their own veiw of something is. If you can respect that view, then you yourself are going to be influenced potentially to buy the reviewed item, or not to buy it. Having the input of another for the majority of people isthe deciding factor as to whether or not they want to buy something, as sad as that is. I for one try to not be influenced by another's oppinion, though sometimes I am. It's hard not to be. If you hear something negative about a game, you're not going to buy that game over another game that gets stellar reviews, unless for some reason you've had your heart set on it since you heard about it.

I would think it would be the other way around. I would be surprised if the average gamer even checked reviews before buying a game. Whereas I would expect the hardcore gamer to follow a game from it's conception to release, including listening to what all the critics have to say.

I agree here. I really trust critics opinions (because they are often the same as mine), and, not having a ton of money, critics are really helpful, suggesting which games are worthwhile.

The more average gamer listens a lot more to reviews than a harcore gamer.
Hardcores don't usually like to try new games, which is where reviews come in.
