Today I picked up this game for $8, and am wondering if it was a wise choice?? I have yet to pop it in the Black Beauty and give it a go around. It looks cool. But the old guy on the cover kinda creeps me out. Too much hair on the sides and none up top.

Not trying to be mean or anything but uh,......you already bought it. Just play it and find out for yourself. I personally dont like the VF series too much, actually im not a big fan of fighting games.

You should have gotten VF4 Evolution man, the updated verison has over a TON of extra goodies!

VF4 Evo is known as one of the greater fighter games in our existance by many fans. Some have even compared to the likes of Garou MOTW, SF3 3rd Strike, Tekken 5, etc. It's just that perfect and balance to make one incredible fighter.

I'm a fighting man, so VF series was the first 3D fighter I ever played and love to this day.

True. But the place I get games from locally has a no questions asked return policy. So I have a week to say yes or no. I already have to take a Dreamcast game back because for some reason it is not working on my DC.

I would have, but they only had the regular VF4. I'll look for the Evo one though, now that you brought it to my attention.

Oh ok I see now. thats a good store.

Grr..you should of just grabbed Marvel vs Capcom 2 instead.

Meh..VF4 looks like an intersting fighting game even though I haven't played it since VF2. So how do you like the game so far Dart? Im sure you had some time to play it now.

Actually I haven't played it yet. I was playing a Dreamcast game that I purchased at the same time. That had zero time yesterday to play any games.
But it seems odd that when I buy games, I usually buy three or four at a time, and I don't seem to play some of them for a long time. I think in all I have about 150 games. And there are about 30 or so that I haven't even played yet since I purchased them!!
But I'll let you know as soon as possible!!

A very important update.
I played VF4 this afternoon after mowing the lawn, and went like six rounds. The game play is great!! The graphics are cool and I actually knocked one guy off an elevated fighting ring and he took a tumble Mortal Kombat style. Bman. Get this game!!! End update.   ::)

True, VF4 does have it's moments. I haven't actually found them, but can all those people who it's so damn great all be wrong? :? I played it and didn't like it. I found the characters boring, the fighting system weird and the arenas uninspiring. But that's just me. I'm not gonna tell you "this game is the best!" or something, but let me tell you what I think about a few fighting games so you can get a bigger selection the next time.

* King of Fighters (except Maximum Impact): These ones have been balanced over and over and over, and you find a game on pretty much every system you can think of. _(not sure about PC, but every console at least.) They are "only" 2D fighters, but there's nothing wrong with some old-school games.
* KoF: Maximum Impact: KoF turned 3D, to some success. The final boss cheats his a** off, and that pretty much ruined it for me. But the characters are really cool, and fighting interesting and very balanced, and the arenas looks amazing.
* Mortal Kombat 1-4: 2D, old school, simply brilliant. Well, not MK3 and 4, but they are still fun if you're into this series.
* MK: Deadly Alliance: The kombat gone 3D, again to some success. It's still Mortal Kombat deep down, but and some of the characters really work in 3D. Others again don't. No names mentioned. (you know who you are, Cyrax.) :lol
* MK: Deception: Now we're talking! Except the final boss cheats a lot, but who cares? The Konquest mode from DA have expanded into a game of it's own, and you get both Chess Kombat and Puzzle Kombat (some sort of 2-player Tetris with a twist and fatalities). They are worth the money alone. I've even somehow managed to play Puzzle Kombat almost as much as actual kombat. It's weird, but in a good way.
* Soul Calibur 2: Almost as good as they get. Almost.
* Soul Calibur 3: The best just got better.
* Street Fighter 2 (normal version): About as good as a 2d fighter can possibly get.

And speaking of fighting games, how come the final bosses always cheats? Take Maximum Impact as a great example. As you fight, you can fill up three "power bars" or something to unleash powerful attacks. The end of game boss has an attack that spends two of the three bars, and yet he uses it three times in row? And of course, each attack removes at least 50% of your health, and he almost never misses. Even if he misses once, he zaps you twice more. It's just sad.

Thanks for the list. I'll have to them out sometime.
I bought VF4 because it was a title I have heard of. And because it was probably the only title there that interested me. Sometimes I'm in the mood for certain games. And I was in the mood for a fighter. And I am impressed with the game. I find the 3D moves to be pretty cool. And the moves easy to learn. The arenas I think are better than some of the other fighting games I have played.
I do agree that it's not the best fighter out there. But by no means is it the worst either. :D

Nightwolf didn't even mention Soul Blade, you know that's basically Soul Calibur? Thats the game that started it all for the Soul Calibur seris. You know the character "Nightmare?" he's in Sould Blade but his name is "Siegfried"(sp?) and his moves, stance, and weapon are the same. Now KoF,SF, and MK seris are just classic fighting games, everyone has played at least one of them and loved playing it, too bad that SNK is dead though. I fell out interest when MK got crazy with all the sequels. I think I stopped playing MK after MK3 when the whole combo system first started for the seris. IMO, 2D is better than 3D.

You guys got to play ShinAkuma on "Capcom vs SNK 2" he's just hard as hell! Its like the game is reading your mind, knows your every movement and attack. Plus he's very strong, he'll due one super combo attack and that'll be like %60-70 damage! I've beaten him though but with one character though.

I think the next fighter I buy is the new Marvel game. I think it's called Marvel Unleashed. I saw the commercials. And me likey!! :D

Doesn't really look interesting to me, just another crappy Marvel SuperHereo game.

I think Capcom should just go ahead and make Marvel vs Capcom 3, just the thought of even saying that makes me want it desperately!

I could have mentioned Soul Blade (aka Soul Calibur 1), but it was on Dreamcast last I checked. That don't really help much. But strangely, I seem to have forgotten all about Tekken. Tekken Tag Team is quite fun, but getting old. Tekken 4 never should have happened, but Tekken 5 isn't all that bad. I don't even like Tekken that much, but enjoyed the fifth one quite a bit. For a while. Until I tried that "Devil Within" crap and got bored. It's just aweful. It didn't work in Tekken 4, so why on Earth did they have to bring it back? Here we have one of the most popular fighting games ever made, and they actually believe you would rather run around in a really bad 3d person game and beat up an endless bunch of weak enemies? If it even looked good I could understand it, but it doesn't. And even better, I made it all the way to the second level, and guess what? It's the same level all over again with slightly different enemies. Avoid at all cost. (but do try Tekken 5, though. It's not that bad.)

Works for me. I have a Dreamcast, and I am always looking out to expand that collection. Mainly because it seems that Sega games are a bit difficult to find in comparison to the more common consoles.

True!! :lol The only fighter so far is VF4. A vast majority of my PS2 games are racing games. And some RPGs. What catagory does Rygar fall into?? It has a lot of parts that seem like an RPG, but it doesn't play like that.

That was my two cents.

Is that Austrainlian cents, or U.S?? Cuz if it's Austrailian, you'll have to toss in two more for the correct exchange rate. :lol
